Exposure was a half second, lens wide open at roughly f3.5. The tendency for beginners is to overexpose. The image should usually be at peak around 15 seconds when developing. If it's taking 40...

Re: Wet Plate Collodion questions answered here.

I added the recommended drops of nitric acid to my first bath, about 500ml in a Lund 5x7 tank. All looked very good. In February I bought a Lund 8x10 tank that holds 1.5L. I dumped the 500ml in...

    The Fisherman

Towards the end of the week I generally have my work all caught up so I can go take photos after lunch. Today I headed a dozen miles north of town to an old mill dam. My intention was to take a...

As someone who buys everything used and is currently looking for a couple of LF items, I agree. Pretty slim pickings lately. I would have predicted the opposite.

Re: Wet Plate Collodion questions answered here.

My plan is to start trying glass negatives very soon. I will start with 4x5 since that's easiest to work with, and I have a ton of 4x5 dry plates I screwed up. I might try putting those in the...
  10. Re: Choosing a film camera for the future... (35mm vs 4x5!)

I suspect all film types available today will be available in ten years. I think black & white film will be around for the next 25 years at least. Some thoughts:

    1. Nikon F2. Solid camera but...

Re: Should there be a Wet Plate subforum?

I've looked into most of that in the past and have some thoughts:

    1. I've both bought and made some of my equipment. I made the dark box (2), bought the holders and silver tank.
    2. The 4x5...

Re: Help me choose a camera to hike 2000+ miles

I would really take a look at Fuji GSW690iii. Takes 6x9 on 120 film, quick to use, compact, rugged, works without batteries. Has either a semi wide 65mm or normal 90mm lens. I just don't see 4x5...

Re: Should there be a Wet Plate subforum?

As it turns out, pouring collodion is pretty easy. It's more viscous than your half & half. The single hardest part is learning the relationship between developing time and exposure.
