  1. Re: Lights ON Central Camera

Thanks for posting this. Out of suffering and struggle, there are often good things that may happen, too. Good to be reminded of them.... when they happen. THanks!
  2. Re: Ships, boats, and/or watercraft

Alan: When were these pictures taken of the USS Texas?

    Yep. Very, very nice. Thirded.
  4. Re: Portraits: Fujinon SFS lenses vs. Fujinon 240 A + Soft Focus filter

Brian: The 180mm "coming" does have both + the Fuji box and instructions. Most re-sale units have only one strainer. but this has both "Red" and "Yellow" dot strainers.
  5. Re: Portraits: Fujinon SFS lenses vs. Fujinon 240 A + Soft Focus filter

    Peter: Thanks!
Bernice: Yes, I agree it's a bit short. Figure with the Fuji A 240 which ISN'T soft, I kind of felt I had that length covered. So the 180 is more coverage than I'd like, and the 240...
  6. Re: Portraits: Fujinon SFS lenses vs. Fujinon 240 A + Soft Focus filter

    Follow-up:

First step decision: Thanks to the discussions here, I "thought" long and hard about the Rodenstock Imagon and "looked" as much as you can on the internet about some of the other...
  7. Re: Portraits: Fujinon SFS lenses vs. Fujinon 240 A + Soft Focus filter

Thanks for all these responses. Clearly there's a lot more to the subject than simply slapping an SF lens on the lens board and firing away. Lighting, angle, subject tones, etc.
    Lens fits in that...
  8. Portraits: Fujinon SFS lenses vs. Fujinon 240 A + Soft Focus filter

I've a Fujinon A 240mm for my 4X5 and have read about the SFS lenses that seem to have behind the lens soft filters (that look more like baffles than filters). These latter remind me of the feather...
  9. Re: B&W digital workflow....what's yours?

You guys know better than I do. If you will, I've used Nikon Coolscan LS8000 for tons of scans. Switching to Nikon D750 since Negative Supply came out with their equipment (negative holders) in 2019...

    Re: Fomapan 100, 200 and 400

Many, many nice shots here. Enough to inspire me to give Foma another try. Tried 200 and didn't care for it per se, but even the 200 shots here show it was more likely me and not the film. Doh. ...

    Re: Lightbox for film scanning

FWIW, I've used a Logan A-5A from some years back and it seems to work fine. I mis-documented here the other day. I keep confusing Negative Supply, Negative Lab Pro and Negative Solutions! Too many...

    Re: Lightbox for film scanning

Sandy: Reading your account makes me wonder to what extent stitching with a Sony is a hands-off process? If the camera can make the images and software stitch hands-off... then we have a process that...

    Re: Color Processing

FWIW, I think C41 is far easier than B&W. I've been using a JOBO and that helps enormously (highly recommended). Haven't tried E6.... so I leave you there. Most of what I've done is 35mm and 120, but...
  15. Re: Northern Virginia/Washington, DC

    Folks:

I regret that since the 5/23 target for our meet-up now looms and our local establishments remain closed, it seems right to post-pone this event until the Fall. At that time if we're...

    Re: Developer Question

    +1 "What Steve Sherman said.

Used more options than I care to speak about. It grows old. Simplicity is bliss. Thought I'd settled into doing Caffenol-CH as my off-beat, "forever" thing until...

    Re: Rodinol to D 23

    Curious about the "keeps" bit.

Most of what I've read is about D23 has been using it one-shot and mixing at time-of-use. I've been doing that with Caffenol and thinking maybe D-23 might not be...
  19. Re: Backpacks for 4X5 with 3 small lenses and Chamonix F2

Alan: Yes... I think MF and it's attendant glass is way heavier. Had the back surgery and don't want more. I've tried the heavy MF with a Bronica and then a Rollieflex 6008 series... but the...
  20. Re: Backpacks for 4X5 with 3 small lenses and Chamonix F2

Okay... THOUGHT I posted a photo of my adapted backpack. Must have put it in the wrong place? Let's try this again:

This is a relatively small pack, stil I've made room for 3 lenses:...
  21. Re: Backpacks for 4X5 with 3 small lenses and Chamonix F2

Roberto: Looks pretty sweet! Not far off what I've got set up. Will send a pic tomorrow. Smaller pack, so I think I'll be carrying the tripod in my hands... but otherwise... good. Take care of...

    Re: Filters and Digital Age

Hey CDK, thanks. Call it a semi-fossil (me) digs up a fossil (this post). I'm using a Polarizer, YG, Y#8, Orange and Red#23 for B&W, and may get a color film filter or two if I really go crazy (which...

    Re: how old are we?

Hey Bob... think about next year the way one my clients described it when she was turning 80. She'd say, "I'm having my 5th Sweet Sixteen party!" I loved it then, and clearly still do. Congrats on...
  25. Re: Lee Filters - anyone using these or Cokin et al squares?

    Lachlan:

For digital, I suspect your're right. However, for B&W film, I don't see one of those three offering B&W contrast filters. Not one.
Each of them makes a Lee or Cokin look inexpensive...

    Re: Filters and Digital Age

Wow. Twelve years later... I'm still a guy who likes (grew up on) filters for B&W in particular. Get it right in the camera, STILL less to do in post. Get it wrong in camera? Well that's why we take...

    Re: Filter fog?

My favorite source for "new to you" filters is Tim Rice at: https://www.filterfind.net/Index.html
He's my go to guy, and prices are very reasonable. I'm currently waiting to hear back from him, but...
  28. Lee Filters - anyone using these or Cokin et al squares?

I've got the 67mm rounds, but beginning to play with Lee's squares. Rounds are definitely more portable in a way. Squares allow multiples and grads and polarizers, and that has some appeal (until it...
  29. Re: Backpacks for 4X5 with 3 small lenses and Chamonix F2

I manage to get to the 67mm filter - with adaptor rings. Do you use round filters, or a filter holder with squares? I'm kind of in-between. Round pack small, but you need the square for a grad......
  30. Re: Backpacks for 4X5 with 3 small lenses and Chamonix F2

I'm kind of set on adpating what I have. I've raided an old DOMKE backpack for the inserts and putting them into the Tenba bag. Fact is that MOST folks out there have no idea what a photographer's...
  31. Re: Backpacks for 4X5 with 3 small lenses and Chamonix F2

Pete: Great advice. My Tenba loads both from the top (I never really use that) and the back... inside. This works as I lay it down on the outside and open the part that rides on my back and dirt...

  33. Re: Washington DC Metro LF Meetup

  34. Backpacks for 4X5 with 3 small lenses and Chamonix F2

So I seem to have a decent size backpack for day use. I'm afraid the F64 would be mega sized and I'd knock around and overload it. But I'm carrying a meter (actually 2 - with the Sekonic hung around...
  35. Re: Photobackpacker Cascade Film holder

This past weekend's shooting, I'm wondering whether I've got the right handle on things or not. Name it, and it went wrong. I have a Tenba back pack... will look at dividers. Wonder about the F64...

    Re: how old are we?

Me? I'll be 63 this year... and retirement's still a long haul from here. And yeah.... I share the "Beware the Ides of Sixty" caution. I had back surgery at 60, but was able to dance at my daughter's...
  37. Re: Washington DC Metro LF Meetup

So here's where we are: We have 7 of us interested: 3 from Photrio and 4 from Largeformatforum. Thank you for your interest. This is encouraging.

First step: DATE is to pick a possible Saturday's...
  38. Re: Question on New-to-4X5 Schooling
