I'm actually printing a 2 part box of my own design as I type this. PLA is very durable and as long as you don't leave it in the direct sun of summer, it shouldn't deform. Depending on how you...

Are you sure you haven't confused that with Desert View? The image posted looks a bit like the eastern end of the canyon looking north.
Truthfully, the best views from Hermit's Rest (the trail...
I worked at Hermit's Rest form 1991 thru 1992. Whatever "dirt road" you thought you were on was probably the employee and park service access. You would've driven past the manager's house, the...
The Wanderer cloths use adjustable elastic on one end. They’ll add snaps on request for an additional fee but I don’t find it necessary.
I'm a big fan of the Wanderer dark cloths. Hand made, weight-y but breathable and available in several sizes and styles. They're a little pricey but worth it.

Once monsoon season is over the danger for flash flooding diminishes considerably. Right now we're in the peak of monsoon season and storms pop up quickly, dump a bunch of rain quickly and then...
The problem with duvetyne is that it doesn't breathe particularly well (I've used it in a pinch and hated it). If you're doing two layers, a heavy cotton broadcloth should be okay, maybe even a light...
I'm a big fan of Wanderer Photogear dark cloths. They're handmade in a variety of fabrics and sizes. They also make film holder cases in a couple of sizes and configurations.

I was there this past September and our guide was excellent. The group we used was affiliated with Thunderbird Lodge in Chinle, be sure to request Daniel (I got the impression that he gets many of...
I camped in Wawona on Sunday and Monday, left a day early on Tuesday. The park service at that time was indicating that the park was threatened at least somewhat. There was talk of shutting down 41...
We just returned from Yosemite last night. We were supposed to stay three nights in Wawona but cut it short by a day due to the smoke and ash. Monday morning the entire valley was covered with smoke...
Zone System Companion. Despite the name, tracks holders and can organize by "session". Also gives you the ability to take a quick snap of your subject to go along with the exposure data. The set up...
Awesome! Thanks for being so quick. :-)
Just bought this yesterday. Unfortunately it seems there's some sort of glitch in that I cannot add focal lengths. No matter how many times I've tried, hitting the "+" to add once I've entered the...
Jamie,
I haven't used the Galaxy stuff, but those images look an awful lot like underexposed examples I shot on a single weight direct positive paper a few years ago. I had to wrap my head around...
A couple of things come to mind.
Color the distance markers with silver sharpie. It's a little sloppy but it does make the numbers readable. I found the marks to have a pretty usable range.

I'll be doing Lower Antelope next week. If they're telling you "no tripods" you're on the wrong tour. Photo tours are a little pricier (depending on the vendor) but are limited to photographers with...
Honestly I haven't noticed a major difference in shots from my TW90 compared with shots from my Pacemaker Speed. What you're probably seeing is compression artifacts from the low resolution JPGs.

Ben has indicated that no pre-orders (non-KS) have been shipped. They still have more backer rewards to ship before they get to the pre-order units AFAIK.
Go to your "Backed Projects" page on Kickstarter. Click on the project in question. You should get a pop-up with the details, including your backer number.
Are you a backer? Most of the information is available on the project page (on Kickstarter). https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wanderlust/travelwide-45-camera
I've found that the amount of whining tends to be inversely proportional to the amount of money "invested" in a given crowd funded project. The SnapPower outlet cover is a perfect example; $15 for...
Part of the problem with the crowd sourced model is the backers themselves though. High expectations and a lack of understanding about how the platform works invariably leads to discontent. As an...
I think that this project sends the wrong message to the community and will result in a lot of distrust in the crowd-sourcing model that so many of these analog friendly projects are relying on. I...
Personally I hope the project dies. At no point have they been clear about the process or the required chemistry - unless you're a backer. They continue to mis-represent the product. At first I...
I have actually messaged them directly and never received a response.
As to the visibility of the updates, that's due to something the project creators have set. I have visibility on the Intrepid...
Only backers get to see this update. Have they back tracked on the "direct positive" spin they keep throwing around yet?
I really wish they'd stop referring to it as "Direct Positive" paper. It's not. To continue to call it that is disingenuous at best and an outright fabrication at worst.
I can't see backing this...
You should be getting notices when a project you back posts an official update, if you're not receiving those, it's likely a setting in your Kickstarter account. This was a quick notice in the...
The prototype units were produced using 3D printing technology. 3D printing is great for rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept but not so good when it comes to production. The plan always was to...
The point being is that your smart phone is a just a very portable computer (that happens to make phone calls and has a camera) it's a tool, no different than any other.
The shutter tester uses...
It's making the best of a device you're already likely to have on hand. I have dedicated light meters and similar bits of kit, but sometimes something gets forgotten or lost (or left at home in order...
A few quick notes:
* As others have mentioned Tusayan should have some available rooms if nothing is available in the park. My experience as a former resident/worker (Fred Harvey 1991-1992 woot!)...
Perhaps this forum isn't the best place to be looking for information. I'd recommend that you follow their blog: http://new55project.blogspot.com/ They post regular updates in a lot more detail than...
Maybe because they're providing updates on their blog with relative frequency? Right now they're getting hammered by some horrible weather and have had some issues related to the building that...
If that's an issue, I would be packing desiccant gel in with my gear. Humidity would be a killer for the helical and would promote fungal growth on your optics.
It still takes time to not only run the parts, but they have to work with the shop to get an open slot in which to run them.
No news is simply no news...
But you're not a customer. You're a backer. It's a bit more like a public TV pledge drive. In this case, your reward should the project work out, is a camera. Granted you've got a bit more at stake...
I don't understand this reflexive need to poop in the punch bowl. I think it's important that we as photographers do what we can to support projects like this. Don't want one? Don't buy one.

That 135mm block would be godsend for those of us that have extra 135mm Graflex/Wollensak Optars. Much lighter than my Pacemaker, and the Optars are dirt cheap.
