Well yeah. Drum scanners are pretty nifty
I guess what I was trying to say was scanning wet at 2400 using the super resolution lens was clearly much better than scanning 2400 off the glass dry. Whether it’s scanning at 2400 or not idk.

The first shot I used it on was a sculpture I made that really only needed sharp focus in the middle 70% of the image so I was a bit lucky first go around. I started out and made a platen scan at...
Recently purchased an 8x10. Was pleased with the scans off the glass shooting Ektar. The difference was pretty extreme stepping up from 4x5.
Decided to experiment with scanning 8x10 using the...
Just received and set up the camera. Put the 210 on. The perspective is wonderful! I will most likely use the 210 before I buy another lens. Definitely have enough depth of field. I think I misused...
Yeah , it don’t necessarily need 1:1. This will be a jump to 8x10 so I’m not sure exactly what I am getting into. I build everything I photograph so the technical side isn’t my strong point. I...
I’ve been shooting 4x5 for three years and pretty much only use a schneider 210 Apo Symmar and occasionally a Rodenstock 150. I’ve never shot with an 8x10 and picked up an Intrepid. I was under the...
Having trouble making up my mind. 300-360 seems to be the focal length that would be most appropriate.
On the list so far is a commercial Ektar 14” and a Schneider Symmar S 360. Other than that...
Using distilled water when mixing the Blix I used a base of 591ml water instead of 532ml.
It’s about a 10% difference. Is the Blix still useable ? Cinestill is the kit Im using.
Maybe during...
Thanks for this tip. Would never have thought.
I’m going to turn the negative around the wrong way and develop. Also fasten rubber bands around the negative. Other than that I have no idea. Its for a still life abstraction I have set up where the...
Thanks so much for this. I’m about to develope and I think it will work.
Yeah Im looking to leave the bar imprint effect intentionally. I’m referring to the SP445 holder lengthwise strips. I have the version of the holder that has 3 strips that run the length of the film....
Looking to intentionally leave an imprint of the holder bars on the film.
Would it be as simple as turning the emulsion face inward on the holder while developing ?
Would rubber bands work to...
Not sure how to describe these. Basically the teeth that let the camera move each standard from left to right. They are broken in my camera or at least a section of them are and I’d like to replace...
Obviously an 8x10 ground glass and frame. I’d also need 8x10 bellows and holders and a lens.
But what else? Does a Sinar P2 rear standard accommodate both 4x5 and 8x10? I’m assuming it does...
I attach my DSLR to the rear standard of my Sinar and then use clamps and a light table with a negative taped to it attached to the front standard. Scanning is prettt starlight forward from there.
Yeah. I can see that. That photo is telling. I couldn’t crop in like that with my 4x5 scans.
So even after downsampling there wouldn’t be enhancement to tonality or sharpness?
If true , this is still good to know.
Didn’t want to start a new thread. Was looking into getting an 8x10 back for my Sinar and was looking for an analysis / opinion on what the scan quality leap was moving from 4x5 to 8x10 while using...
I’m in Southern California. Mission Viejo to be exact. Was looking for teachers as well in the LA extended area.
Thanks so much for this information. I didn’t know you could coat paper negatives as I’m pretty new to large format.
What type of substances can you use to coat paper or glass negatives? I’d be...
The copper plate is something new for her. She previously scanned the glass plates and printed them with a pigment printer.
It has to be the coating / process.
Is achieving that viscous effect simply a result of coating the plate with a specific chemical? Also I’m assuming that the long exposures are simply a result of an asa of 1. Just metered a scene and...
Hey guys. Thanks for all the responses. I own an SP445 so I’m excited about being able to develope plates in one.
The artist name is Whitney Lewis Smith http://www.whitneylewissmith.com Pretty...
I’m pretty sure the artist used dry plates. Well this is all new to me.
Does a dry plate fit into a standard 4x5 holder?
How does one develope a dry plate?
I’m still a novice shooting LF and recently drew a liking to an artist who shoots still life
Who supposedly shoots 5-6 minute studio exposures at ISO 1-2.
What kind of film can handle this?...
Inadvertently mixed Unicolor developer in 800ml and added 200ml at the end but forgot about compensating for the amount of fluid. The end result was 1100ml.
Can I compensate for this successfully...
I'm just trying to get the make and model of a screw before the vultures land.
Well I found the sync post but the screws are still MIA. Does anyone know the size of the screws that would fit the threading on this lens?
Yeah. I called two in the D.C. Area and they had no idea what I was talking about.
I tripped over my sync chord and the threading and screw flew off my 150 S. It must not have been on too tight as it didn't break anything on the lens. I found one screw. The other screw and...
Thanks for the response. The eye is quite good save for when the scanning OCD hits. Thought maybe this method could be used to eliminate doubt when it's present.
Recently purchased a betterscanning holder for the V850. This would be my first experience with a continuous height variability holder. In attempts to find the " Sweet Spot " for the scanner I've...
Using my Sinar as a scanning bed with a light pad clamped to the front axis and DSLR mounted to the rear standard.
Scanned a section of a 4x5 Portra 160 negative. There's no question that the...
Just an update. I initially troubleshooter the issue with the lens not being flush , a secondary issue popped as well. The rear standard was not closing completely flush. I did not notice this...
If you can, go for a Rodenstock APO Sironar S. More expensive but you'd likely never sell it.
Just took a shot with it from 2 feet and it's the sharpest image I've ever printed. I thought from...
Yeah , I understand that. How exactly would one benefit from using a slower shutter speed with a leaf shutter. I understand the math behind a faster shutter but with slower speeds I don't see how...
If someone is using only strobes in a room with little or no ambient light what is the advantage of using slower shutter speeds for still life. I've read a leaf shutter adapts to most shutter speeds...
