  1. Re: Anyone tried Epson P906 (P900) printer for digital negatives?

Just a follow up on my original question.

I went ahead and bought an Epson P906 to print digital negatives for platinum and palladium printing.

Took a while to make the actual printer work, had...

    Digital Negative Printer Recommendation

I am interested in moving to digital negatives for platinum and palladium printing.

Can anyone recommend a good printer currently available for printing up to A3 digital negatives?

    Thanks
  3. Re: Anyone tried Epson P906 (P900) printer for digital negatives?

After a bit more digging it seems the pro Epson printers I have looked at use 3 different inks:

Epson UltraChrome K3/HDR (sold with P800?)
Epson UltraChrome HDX (as sold with the P5070)
    Epson...
  4. Re: Anyone tried Epson P906 (P900) printer for digital negatives?

Are you suggesting standard Epson inks that come with the P800 and possibly P900 will not work for digital negative printing out of the box?
  5. Re: Anyone tried Epson P906 (P900) printer for digital negatives?

    Thanks.
  6. Re: Anyone tried Epson P906 printer for digital negatives?

    Thanks.

In theory though, there is no reason why it would not work right?
  7. Anyone tried Epson P906 (P900) printer for digital negatives?

    Hi All -

I am interested in purchasing a printer for printing digital negatives for platinum printing.

The Epson printer that seems to be available here in Australia is the Epson Surecolor...

Paper in Freezer Got Wet, Useable?

I scored a whole lot of old paper form a closed down photo studio a while ago. I had an empty fridge in the shed so filled it to the brim with tons of paper, including in the freezer.

    I checked it...
  9. Re: Old Rectilinear Lens with only One Element. Any Use?

    Is that your website?
  10. Re: Old Rectilinear Lens with only One Element. Any Use?

I did find the entry for the other Dallmeyer I have. A 2.5" Detective Tele Photo Attachment 55567. I understand this is a negative lens, not quite sure what it would be used for though.
  11. Re: Old Rectilinear Lens with only One Element. Any Use?

    Serial is 50491

Unfortunately both pages I checked failed to load:

  12. Re: Old Rectilinear Lens with only One Element. Any Use?

Yes, I've seen few Baker & Rouse parts around myself. It does make it somewhat easy to age the lens as from what I can tell Baker & Rouse ceased trading under that name in 1907 when they merged with...
  13. Re: Long Exposure - Very Different Results Between Digital and 4x5 Film

I have seen threads and reviews where people have been quite happy with Fomapan film. Some people actually like its reciprocity properties.

For me, learning a new art, Fomapan is more than...
  14. Re: Long Exposure - Very Different Results Between Digital and 4x5 Film

Yes, once I accounted for reciprocity I have been getting good results.
  15. Re: Long Exposure - Very Different Results Between Digital and 4x5 Film

No, the digital camera was not in Auto ISO mode. I tend to shoot manual everything with my digital.
  16. Re: Old Rectilinear Lens with only One Element. Any Use?

Thanks for that tip, will have a look around and see if I can find a close-up filter that fits.
  17. Re: Long Exposure - Very Different Results Between Digital and 4x5 Film

The Fomapan is the first box of new large format film I have ever bought. Up until then I had been using old Ilford FP4 that I think expired mid 1980s.

Compared to that old Ilford the Fomapan...
  18. Re: Old Rectilinear Lens with only One Element. Any Use?

Just made up a cardboard lens board to have a test with.

I had to extend the bellows a lot to get focus, and then seemed to focus over a very broad range (if that makes sense).

    But the image...
  19. Re: Old Rectilinear Lens with only One Element. Any Use?

By sheer chance I picked up a Plaubel Supra II (I think) at local auction the other day for $50, a week after I purchased my Toyo 45A (my first LF camera). Strange as I have been going to local...
  20. Re: Old Rectilinear Lens with only One Element. Any Use?

I just projected an image on a piece of paper of a lamp sitting in my office and it seems to be very clear at about 35cm distance - not sure if that translates to a useable quality image in an actual...
  21. Old Rectilinear Lens with only One Element. Any Use?

    Hi All - Newbie Alert.

Got this lens in a box of old bits and pieces. Bought it for next to nothing because I saw a Dallmeyer lens in there that is stuck in some sort of flange - anyway that's...
  22. Re: Long Exposure - Very Different Results Between Digital and 4x5 Film

Wow. 4 hours vs 13 minutes. That illustrates the point pretty well I would say. I guess that is one reason why Fomapan is so cheap.

As a beginner I was just trying to find the cheapest possible...
  23. Re: Long Exposure - Very Different Results Between Digital and 4x5 Film

Got it. That does make it a bit easier to figure out without a calculator handy. :D

Hmmm, good point and good way to think about it. But, I thought for basic multiplication, if only using...
  24. Re: Long Exposure - Very Different Results Between Digital and 4x5 Film

Yes, I just learnt about the bellows extension factor.

Not sure if I completely understand how to calculate it but just tried the following and the resulting negative looks, to my amateur eye,...
  25. Re: Long Exposure - Very Different Results Between Digital and 4x5 Film

The table I posted above was from the Fomapan 100 classic data sheet, I believe.

Thanks, will keep that tip in mind for the next experiments.

Certainly a lot to keep in mind and it does...
  26. Re: Long Exposure - Very Different Results Between Digital and 4x5 Film

One reason is I only have limited lighting to choose from, ie. household lamps etc.

Second reason is I was playing with using low light to keep the background illumination low - or ultimately...
  27. Re: Long Exposure - Very Different Results Between Digital and 4x5 Film

Yes, the datasheet does not give a simple formula to apply to times over 100 seconds, thats why I calculated the original conversion back down to 100 seconds.

    Haven't heard of 'bellows factor',...
  28. Re: Long Exposure - Very Different Results Between Digital and 4x5 Film

    Okay I understand now..

    So will try:

    f 25 @ ISO 80 = 100 seconds x 16 = 1600 seconds = 26.6 minutes

Fair bit longer than the 3.2 minutes I tried first.. :p
  29. Re: Long Exposure - Very Different Results Between Digital and 4x5 Film

    Thanks, reading up now.
  30. Long Exposure - Very Different Results Between Digital and 4x5 Film

    Hi All - Newbie here.

I have a question I thought some of you might be able to help me with.

I am trying to do some still life shots in very low directional light. In other words lighting the...

Can Anyone Identify This 4x5 Camera?

First post to the forum, since getting the LF bug.

Just a quick question. Is anyone able to tell me what the camera pictured below is? I cannot find a brand name on it. It just says 'Germany' on...
