Its just the plating coming off. You can sand those areas down without any consequences. Try to create as smooth a surface as possible. The inside of that "main lever" ring is more important than the...
I'm not surprised you two know each other. I worked for Deb in the 1980s as her darkroom technician, and I learned a LOT during the two years I was with her. She's a great photographer and I have a...
I do have Chris's book, yes. I acquired it shortly after making the above print. A very useful book!
I have no "opinions" about large format photography that I feel need expressing to others. I enjoy what photography brings to my life, the things it enables me to do, and the sense of purpose it...

Thank you very much Hugo, I'm very glad you like it.
Thanks very much!

I've used PF's PMK and it worked well. Mine lasted four years before the Pyro component finally went bad. (I didn't use the whole bottle before it expired)
It seems to me there are folks here who don't understand what a "still life" is.
Another vote for Pinhole Assist. I’ve used it for years. Very reliable, accurate.
Very nice work indeed!
On it. 8x10 with the Intrepid, on HP5.

I assume you mean the 203mm Ektar, f7.7
It covers 4x5 with quite a bit of room to spare. I regularly use my 203 Ektar on 5x7 and it covers well enough.
It is, as Bernice has suggested, an excellent...

Sometimes, those Schneider lenses can benefit from a bit less contrast. Just sayin'.
If you’re not liking these images, then it’s time to switch to a high acutance developer, like Pyrocat HD
Personally, I dislike shutters that have electronics in them and require electricity to operate, and wouldn't seek one out. Resistors and capacitors WILL FAIL in time, whereas the all mechanical...
I work on Compur shutters almost exclusively. Can you show me a photo of the front plate of the shutter? Its likely I can get that serviced for you pretty quickly. If its one of these, I am very...
Thank you Randy.
About the drying of wet plates during long exposures: yes, its absolutely a risk you take when making long exposures! I have never pushed it to 17 minutes before this plate - I...
Thank you Ben!

The silver bath can last indefinitely, if properly maintained. John Coffer states that some of his silver baths are twenty-plus years old and still fully functional.
You may know by now that...
I don't know which I'm more impressed with - the photograph, or the fact that you grew Edithcolea grandis from seed! (I love Stapelioides)
I put a 15 watt light bulb in a fixture mounted in a campbells soup can, and hung it about 4 feet over my work table. For a year, this is how I made 8x10 contact prints before getting an enlarger....
I am running the original NIK Silver Efex Pro2 on a 2013 Mac Pro. I have no plans to move to the DxO version for fear it simply won't run. If it ain't broke.....
I have both the prograf Pro 1000 and the newer prograf pro 300. The pro-1000 I have had for about 3 years. It has been somewhat prone to jet clogging, but otherwise it has been a superb printer....

Excellent news, Andros! I was 99% certain you'd discover that the collodion just needed more time to ripen properly. Now you know what to do in the future!
I’ve read a lot of complaints about the Stenopeika cameras: light leaks, misaligned parts, etc. Yes, there are complaints about the build quality if the Intrepid too, but I see no reason to choose...
Old Workhorse MUST ripen for at least two weeks before it is properly ready for use.
Here is the recipe from my notes:

My technique is:
1) dissolve the salts in 3ml of distilled water
2) mix the appropriate volumes of Ethanol and Ether and mix them well
3) add the 3ml of water and salts solution into the...
I have twice encountered a similar problem, and both times it was using newly mixed salted collodion. The same collodion behaved normally a week later. It seems sometimes new collodion needs several...
