    Re: B's 4x5 reel, experiences?

I use both; never had any issues with the B's reel, but have had occasional emulsion gouges from the film hold-down clips on the SP-445 holders. I do like the fact that the Paterson tank fills...

Re: New HC110 Liquid Same as Old HC110 Syrup?

A few over on PHOTRIO have reported some minor storage issues; not sure, yet, if the issues affect the capability of the concentrate. Otherwise, processing appears to be the same times at the various...

    Re: Intrepid 8x10 experiences?

I have a Toho FC-45X...that camera, along with a nice range of small lenses from 90mm to 300mm, is my main 4x5 backpacking outfit.

    Re: Intrepid 8x10 experiences?

The Intrepid is far from my first LF camera. I used a Deardorff 8x10 for 30+ years, but I like to hike with my cameras and, at nearly 70 years young, the 'dorff just became too much to carry very...

    Re: Intrepid 8x10 experiences?

I was using my Kickstarter 8x10 MkI regularly until I just recently got the MkII. I do like the MkII version better, but the original is a perfectly fine camera.

Wow, Austin, that Floyd image is very powerful! Nice!!
  7. Re: GG manufacturers update and Intrepid users feedback

Personally, I wouldn't use either of those lenses with the Intrepid 810 MkI, but the latest MkII version would probably be workable. I might be wrong, but I believe Ben Horne uses a Nikon W 300/5.6...

    Re: Storing Ansco 130

I'll store a working solution of this developer in brown glass bottles for a few days, if I'm planning additional printing sessions. Then, it gets tossed. Never tried to store a mixed stock solution...

Same here. I shoot quite a bit of 8x10 Fomapan 100 and like the results.

That's true, but my experience with double-sided x-ray film in these drums was not acceptable.

Re: Daylight processing tank for x-ray film

When I was shooting x-ray film, I didn't use much double-sided, but I've read that it can be problematic in something like the Jobo Expert Drums. Therefore, I'm thinking it would be best to allow...

  15. Re: SP445 film holder marks on negatives ( how to do this intentionally )

Now I'm curious how this might work with my new v4 holders, since it has grooves in the holder to facilitate flow? I'll have to test it and see...
  16. Re: How much detail is lost enlarging a 4x5 negative to 8X10

In my testing of this very question many years ago, I found that though I wouldn't say a 2x enlargement from 4x5 lost detail vs an 8x10 contact print, but, to my eye, I found the contact print to...

I played around with one years ago when considering a purchase. Fantastic image quality, but many considerations come into play. For example, since it's a scanning back subject movement can be...
  18. Re: SP445 film holder marks on negatives ( how to do this intentionally )

I don't think turning the emulsion inward would be a good idea because solutions probably wouldn't be able to get to all that surface evenly. I have 3 versions of the holders and, honestly, I've had...

    Re: Scanning 8x10 Negatives

I've been scanning 8x10 for nearly 20 years on an Epson Expression 1680 Pro. It doesn't have the higher resolution of today's scanners, but it's fine for my needs.

Re: Clothes iron as tacking iron?

I don't see why a clothes iron wouldn't work, but my concern would be moving the print when tacking it to the matt board. With my tacking iron, I need to raise a corner only about 1/2".

Re: Arista EDU 100 (Fomapan 100) in HC-110?

OK, to be honest I don't use the Arista EDU version of Fomapan 100, rather I use Foma. But, same thing so my time should work for the Arista EDU film, too.

    Re: Fiber based paper thoughts

Sorry, I love both Ilford FB Classic and FB Warmtone; with the latter be my overall favorite. I, also, really like Adox Lupex developed in Amidol for contact printing 8x10 negs. Like John, I air-dry...

  31. Re: A brief article on digital image "toning": Advanced Color Fill Method in Photosho

Looks like you've got a good grasp of using Blend If. Not sure how you used Blend If on the example above, but, FWIW, it's always been easier on my brain to think about allowing portions of...

    Re: Freezing Silver Gelatin Paper?

I've frozen silver gelatin paper for 40 years without issue. Probably the oldest stock was 20 or so years; still good. Like jp, I put the package into a ziplock bag.

  36. Re: Stearman Press 810 & Temperature Film Reticulation

FWIW, I always use 1L of solution with the SP-8x10. But, I don't do any style of minimal agitation with this tank.
  37. Re: Stearman Press 810 & Temperature Film Reticulation

If you see the same result, I'd suggest developing a sheet using normal agitation and see what you get.
  38. Re: Stearman Press 810 & Temperature Film Reticulation

That looks like bromide drag; perhaps from doing this style of development with the film in a horizontal position? I've done minimal and EMA agitation in tanks/hangers and my own homemade tanks, but...
  39. Re: I'm ready to shoot my first LF negatives -- help!
