  1. Re: Comparison of Howtek 8000 Resolve to Epson V850

1.8 was an apple thing. 2.2 is standard now. So long as you get the end result your after the technique you use is up to you. I don't use Epson can so don't k ow much about it.
  2. Re: Comparison of Howtek 8000 Resolve to Epson V850

This is 100% true. Even If there were a magic bullet so to speak, if you don't know what your doing you will get a wonderful mess of crap. The best thing I learned was to study the image as I...
  3. Re: Comparison of Howtek 8000 Resolve to Epson V850

It does have its biggest uses in science, but it also has a good use for anything digital including film scanning. I have not really played with it for positive film scans, but for negatives, color...

  5. Re: Comparison of Howtek 8000 Resolve to Epson V850

I use Vuescan. It basically will give you wysiwyg. What you see is what you get. I prefer Vuescan ro anything epso has. If you want to try it out download a trial copy. Or if you want t use Epson...
  6. Re: New Photoshop ‘Select Subject’ Feature Gets Even Better

    On the whole world.
  7. Re: Film, scanning or development issues?

    Lol
  8. Re: Comparison of Howtek 8000 Resolve to Epson V850

Linear raw scan. No gamma curve applied, no conversion of neg to pos. It is basically the raw data allowing you to fo whatever you want with your scan since no formula baked into it.
  9. Re: Film, scanning or development issues?

Looks like film defects. Are these wet or dry mount? Healing brush, clone tool, patch tool whatever works.
  10. Re: New Photoshop ‘Select Subject’ Feature Gets Even Better

Never tried it. Usually do masks manually. I will have to check out though once I am moved to temp house while new one designed and built.
  11. Re: Should I Drum Scan, X1 Flextight Scan, or use the Epson V850 w/Aztek Wet Mount Ki

I use it to hide scratches and force film flat, etc. If i just use anr it doesn't work so well and it is the way I have been using my V850 for 2 years now. It certainly does not hurt.

    I would...
  12. Re: Should I Drum Scan, X1 Flextight Scan, or use the Epson V850 w/Aztek Wet Mount Ki

    Wet scan with anr glass
  13. Re: Howtek 8000 Drum vs. Epson V850 flatbed scanners

I am not gonna dump my drum scanner. Used v850 for long time now. It is good, but I don't want good, I want nirvana. Lol
  14. Re: Howtek 8000 Drum vs. Epson V850 flatbed scanners

    Nope
  15. Re: Howtek 8000 Drum vs. Epson V850 flatbed scanners

Here is another comparison showing focus based on height adjustments of the Epson V850 Pro 4x5 film holder. No sharpening was applied. This is a different type film; Tmax 400 instead of the previous...
  16. Re: Howtek 8000 Drum vs. Epson V850 flatbed scanners

I figured that is how this would go. Suffice it to say in a couple of months I will be able to provide real world, side by side comparisons of my V850 and my Howtek 8000 Hiresolve.

    To me, both...
  17. Re: Just bought a Howtek 8000 HiResolve

  18. Just bought a Howtek 8000 HiResolve

Moon lit scene with Txp 320

I shot a scene at f/16 for 1.5 hours under a 3/4 moon. Took a guess. It was enough to fog film, but not much else. Looks like it would be a 4-6 hour exposure at least judging by failure of first...

I like this one. Chaos and symmetry abound in this image.
  37. Re: Your Best Photograph from the Previous Month - Critique and Discussion Encouraged

Unusual composition. Looks as though he is anguished in some manner. In some respects the plastic curtain adds an uncomfortable feeling to it.
  38. Re: Your Best Photograph from the Previous Month - Critique and Discussion Encouraged

Overall, it looks great. I see a couple of hotspots, rope and around front of name. Good tonality and contrast. Have you thought about split toning or single tone like sepia or selimium?
