Yes, this was Howtek. Another image from this shoot was scanned on Epson.
Dead Tree and storm, Grand Canyon North, Valhalla Lookout.

I like this one. The water has a dreamy look to it. Well done.
Let me run the Epson file thru Nik define. It is for removing noise from digital images but works well with scans. I ran the Howtek thru define so that may account for some of the differences.
That is true about training the Epson. If you make adjustments with the Aztec software you can store those adjustments as a calibration file and then do final scan using that calibration file. End...
Grand Canyon from Lipon PT. Tmax100, red 25A, 75mm Nikkor f4.5@f/32. Rescanned using Howtek

Thanks!
That band is rain clouds. You get the these vertical winds out of the canyon that can cause vertical separation of clouds and rains. I have a black and white of the canyon with a storm...
Thanks! There are a whole bunch of dead trees at Sunset Crater Park, Flagstaff, AZ. I plan to take a day or two and photograph them. Kinda like a study in death.
Road Kill Stew!
Peaceful Image, I like.
Great movie! Makes you feel clostraphobic
Grand Canyon North Storm. 4x5 shot with Portra160, Nikkor 75mm f4.5@f/32. Scanned on Howtek.

I did. What I may do is reprocess the Epson scan with the experience I now have since then. I agree with your comments Peter.
Font use the holder, but didn't notice when I did. I eill check with my Epson holder when I get home from travel.
I like this one.
No portraits, :(
Yeah, but that is a lot of work to crop out 100% scans. In a sense, you end up not seeing the forest for the trees. I tend to focus on the overall image. It is nice to zoom in sometimes, but the...
Howtek scan of one of my first 4x5 images. Toyo 4x5 and 75mm lens. Many things technically whacked, but still not a bad image.

I like that one Corran

Differences to some...
Thought about doing something like that, but never got to it. I bet with 3D printing, one could make an excellent film scanner. Especially with something like the Canon mirrorless that was just...
I use the better scanning film holder, anr glass, and optical mylar with scan fluid and a brayer roller to squeeze out all air and flatten the negative between the mylar and glass. Works great.
To my knowledge there is no pixel shift. The V850 has a true 6400 optical resolution. Once you go above that, it becomes an interpolated result I think. Again, I think having to perfect a scan...
All the samples I post are wet mounted on the Epson and the Howtek. I can certainly tell the difference. I have been able to have all my 4x5 film lay flat when wet mounting for the epson. I roller...
I say hybrid, because the light source is digital in the Epson (led), the Howtek uses old fashioned light bulbs (halogen, I believe). Also, the final image from the Howtek is not software...
I believe you could. Have not tried it yet.
Focus is number one. From there, scan at the highest resolution you can do and then do a 2x2 bin before saving. That takes a 6400 to 3200. Vuscan is the only program I know that can do that right...
The way to reduce the ppi is to do a 2x2 binning. This is different than resizing in photoshop or other programs. 2x2 binning turns 4 pixels into a super pixel. Reducing the file using photoshop...
Gonna start with buying some already made from Jason Lane. Then start making my own. I have like 20 plates. The hard part will be coming up with an interface from camera to scope and of course...
I do agree resolution is not everything. What I see is the ability to reproduce subtle gradations and transitions across the spectrum. The V850 uses led light source whereas t he Howtek use a lamp...
For the trees, the second one is the Howtek.
Two more examples. Both converted neg to positive tonight, no scaling or any attempt at color correction. Neither was sharpened during or after scan. I am still figuring out the profile/method I...
because I do not allow sharpening of any kind during scanning.
I disagree on sharpening after scanning for comparison. The old saying crap in crap out. If your starting dole is degraded then all you are doing is masking issues and your final product will be...
