I've shot 4x5, 5x7, and 8x10. Much of what I love about large format is present in any size - the intentionality of it, the procedures and work flow, the patience of it, the relationship to the...

Re: Help with developing results good and bad

The "bad" negatives are grossly out of focus, so it must involve a problem when you shot them. Maybe the tripod moved, or you hadn't tightened all the knobs (I've done all of this and more).
  25. Re: What can cause TINY TINY white spots on a neg?

Another possibility is microbubbles formed by the acid stop bath. I've always used a water stop bath for this reason.
  26. Re: ARTIFACT on my negative - what kind of light leak is this?

Excellent advice! What a wealth of experience. No, the rebate edges were not fogged, so it clearly happened when the holder was in the camera. I'm usually fastidious about keeping the dark cloth...

    Hello all -
Recently encountered a light leak, and I can't figure out how it happened. Any ideas? It's HP5, 4x5, in a previously tried and true film holder. I'm wondering, maybe the dark cloth...

Check out Timothy Greenfield-Sanders' work. He shoots studio portraits in 8x10. If you're serious about portraiture with artificial light, I'd recommend taking a workshop or class to get started.

Re: Digital printing: Papers for Black and white

Try toggling between "relative colorimetric" versus "perceptual" settings in PS. One or the other, I can't remember which, has a tendency to overload the ink where there are very saturated areas.

  40. What is the Yelw/Blu/Wht/Red switch on my Goerz Rectagon 6 inch lens?

Just acquired a Goerz Rectagon 6" f.6 lens. On the side there's a small switch that can be cocked like a shutter, with a scale of 25/20/5/0, the color labels, and a tiny knurled knob.

    What does...
