Re: The Setup and the Shot

The two main challenges on this day were a steady wind somewhere in the 20mph region and very low cloud base. I am setup on a high ground / ridge where I managed to find a small area of lee created...

    Re: Large Format Landscapes

The day after storm Arwen, still quite windy (20mph or so), so the image I recced earlier in the week was not possible, but I found a tiny spot on the Leathad an Lochain ridge that was in a lee,...

Re: Taking film in and out of the freezer

Given the humidity around here is usually around 60+%, once a film pack is open, the emulsion will absorb some water, so I only freeze unopened film for long term storage, once a pack is open, it...
  6. Re: Arista EDU and Foma 400 - Are you using them in spite of .... ??

Ah, interesting, I was thinking that recently I am seeing fewer of these than I used to, and this could explain it, as I am mainly using PyrocatHD just now with half-strength ilfostop. I'll try the...

    Re: Developing tank advice

I was going to get a second set of slides, but realized the SP-445 slides are so easy to dry this isn't necessary, you can just shake them off, wipe with a suitable cloth and they are ready to reload...

    Re: Large Format Landscapes

I like these a lot, and I think you are right, they work together as a pair, I think it's the contrast between the detail on the right and the lack of it on the left that makes that work.
  10. Re: Arista EDU and Foma 400 - Are you using them in spite of .... ??

I'd not push Foma 400 at all, the datasheet shows it's really a ISO 200 film, and it has rather nice tonal curve when exposed around 200, but I personally don't like the tonality that much when shot...

    Re: Large Format Landscapes

  13. Poll: Re: Poll: How do you process large format black and white film?

I’ve switched to the SP-445 recently from handrotating a jobo tank, and it was definitely worth the expense, being able to process 4x5 film using inversion in just 1/2l of chemicals has been...

Re: the thread for Kodak XTOL quality control issues

  17. Re: Opinion: Would a 90mm f8 or f6.8 lens be too dark for dawn and dusk landscape?

Make that at least 200 sheets, 4x5 sheet of Foma is $1.20. (Or perhaps 250, the only CF I see on eBay is ~$400, and they will only get more expensive, as is the general trend with all of the analogue...

Beautiful, so well put together, and such lovely colour palette. I'd have never guessed that is Porta 400, I have never managed such lovely green tones with that film.

  23. Re: What is about the right size for a dark cloth for a 4x5" camera?

Mine is 140cm wide and 1m long, I'd not go any shorter than that for my medium height, I used have it at 140cmx140cm, but that was unnecessarily long. I used a blackout curtain fabric that is black...

    Re: Shanghai Film Caffenol Processing

I don't use either, but the Massive Dev Chart has times for GP3/Caffenol combos, so it should be possible. I'd probably try to develop a sheet in some other developer, e.g., rodinal, to see what...

That was my point. Sooner or later someone will need to start making shutters. They won't be fully mechanical, they are too complex to make and I suspect not economically viable at small volumes, and...

    Re: Inexpensive 4x5 field cameras

No, they are far too expensive for my kind of amateur photography, not least because I rarely resort to a wide angle lens, tending toward 180 most of the time. Also, they seem impossible to find for...
