I second what Tin Can said: specify which Toyo models you're looking at and people will be able to answer very quickly.

Re: A few advise before I dive !

Daniel, seems to me you're getting more than one red flag, and from quite a few experts.

After reading them, I would amend my earlier statement to say that you might have a lot of problems...

Re: Newcomers to LF: First Read The Book

The "Ansel Adams/zone system is a religion/cult" spiel is getting old and usually comes from people who never bothered to read his books.

Ansel Adams developed a system to help himself make the...

Re: Need More LIGHT: Should I start PUSHING?

Just did a few pics of friends in a park this weekend with a 4x5. Overcast day. Was using Fomapan 100. Aperture was generally f/22, and had no problem with shutter speeds between 1/8s and 1/2s.

    As...

Love it. Still hoping someone will one day revive an Ansel Adams' thread from 1957.

Indeed, one problem with pdmoylan's project - - will not be where to start but where to stop.
  14. Re: Question for yellow filter users: #8, #12 or #15?

Thanks for the advice, Drew. And the personal recollections as well.

Green is an excellent idea. Adams does talk about how Edward Weston learned the hard way that a yellow-orange filter in the...

Re: Technique for focusing "into your scene"

If you defined your plane of sharp focus at a high angle - from beneath the camera straight to the clouds - it's possible that you've excluded stuff that lies under the lower depth of field plane.

  16. Re: Question for yellow filter users: #8, #12 or #15?

Love this answer! I actually hadn't thought of that - and I should have, having been to Italy and Spain, where the "blueness" of the sky is so evidently different than here. I guess i assumed - the...
  17. Question for yellow filter users: #8, #12 or #15?

I've been going through - and quite enjoying - Ansel Adams' Examples: The Making of 40 Photographs. I had never realized before how much he used yellow filters, a lot of #8 but also quite a few times...
  18. Re: Shutter release adaptor for Technika recessed lens board

Thanks sharktooth. Indeed, that's not the type of cable I have (mine is a slimmer Gepe). The Linhof ones aren't cheap, but I'd rather pay for that than for a new Technika recessed board.

    Bob,...
  19. Shutter release adaptor for Technika recessed lens board

    Hi,

I've got a Technika recessed lens board that came with the Schneider 90mm Super-Angulon (Compur Shutter). As you can see on the picks, the quick socket on it is not the one with the red button...

Re: Technique for focusing "into your scene"

Not the same maths at all (if indeed the 1/3 "rule" for digital photography is actually based on maths). From the little I know on the subject (haven't done much digital photography), it's stated as...
  23. Re: Forum large scale project - one stop source of historic lf photographers

Maybe it's the effect of the pandemic and spending 7 hours a day in front of a computer screen, but I've been going back to photo books more often than in the past. It slows things down - not having...
  24. Re: Forum large scale project - one stop source of historic lf photographers

A sort of encyclopedia of large format photographers is a fun idea, but you might be underestimating the scope of your project.

I don't think there is a difference in this type of project whether...
  25. Re: Smallish back pack for Technika + 2 lenses + 3 film holders??

  27. Re: Newbie Question - Should I develop film myself or send it to a lab?

Start by doing the black & white yourself.

It's not a huge investment: a few plastic graduates, a measuring syringe, a beaker, a development tank for 4x5 (I use the Stearman SP-445). No need for...

  32. Re: Kalart Focuspot Attachment / Linhof Technika IV

Indeed. Sorry I wasn't clear in my description.

This is the MacGuffin I want to get rid of. I though it would just unscrew, but it's so tight, I'm not sure that's the way to do it.

I won't use the rangefinder, and it makes reaching the swing knob really awkward.
  34. Kalart Focuspot Attachment / Linhof Technika IV

    Hi

I have a Technika IV with the Kalart Focuspot attachment (as in pic). Any way I can get it off? I'm never going to use the rangefinder.

Will I need a milled screw cover?
