I occasionally cut down my film but I have never felt the need for any night vision equipment. A good quality paper cutter is all I use.
I would be curious to see what happens if you try to take it along with you on a flight in your carry-on luggage :D
and a final rinse in a tray with a couple of drops of photoflo or another wetting agent helps prevent water spots or other drying marks :)
I in Milan have long given up trying to buy film locally. Absolutely nobody keeps 5x7 in stock anymore, and those who are willing to order it cannot guarantee a timeframe for delivery and ask...
and I should add that other Nagaokas such as my 5x7 use hard to find custom made woodden lensboards which are just slightly larger than a Technika board

a 75mm hypergon should apparently cover 8x10
welcome :)
I carry a 5x7 nagaoka along with a 180 and 240 fujinon A in kelty backpack
to keep the weight down usually I don't take with me more than three or four holders

:D
Tieche river, Valais, Switzerland
shot on FP4+ with a 5x7 Nagaoka and a 240mm Nikkor-W
I don't know about the mac mini, but I'm running CS3 on a macbook air (1.6GHz core2duo w/ 2GB ram) and it can easily handle an 8bit 2400dpi scan of 5x7 transparency (about 600MB)
it's not blazingly...
as others have said any multicoated lens in a modern shutter from one of the big four will be an excellent choice
thanks everybody
I think I'll be getting the Kelty with the photobackpacker kit
Got mine today. It arrived here in Italy in perfect condition
I can't wait to get the lensboard drilled so that I can try it out :D
I was looking for a backpack for my 5x7 Nagaoka and stumbled upon the Photobackpacker's website with their Kelty Redwing backpacks.
It looks like a really nice system, but how do you guys carry your...
it looks quite nice
and btw there are some lovely pictures on your website :)
Luckily here in Italy the brokerage fees for both FedEx/UPS are not as high: slightly more than €10
Even if they were higher most people would still be more than willing to pay them since anything...
does the opposite also hold true?
that I will not lose much by opening it up?
the 450c is certainly a great lens, unfortunately I just don't have enough bellows (about 330mm)
and even using an extension lensboard is probably not feasable. to focus it at 2mt I would need to...
however for the occasional portrait it might actualy be desirable to shoot wide open to get a very shallow depth of field
wow nice
it looks like it will even cover 5x7 at 1:1
I've just ordered mine :D
I was considering the purchase of a Fujinon-T 400mm F/8
It looks like it is really intended for 4x5, but do you think it could also be used on 5x7?
It has an image circle of 220mm at F/22,...
the lee gel snap is not very practical
if you want to use gel filters I'd reccomand frame mounted gels in a standard lee holder
closed for holydays ;)
Although I'm sure they'll reply as soon as they reopen
I bought some HP5+ film from RobertWhite which was shipped via UPS (1Z 8W2 047 66 4079 742 0)
When tracking the shipment on their website I discovered that they had x-rayed my package.
:( :( :(...
with FP4+ for exposures longer than one second I calculate the exposure time by taking the metered time and raising it to the power of 1.48.
then depending on the scene's contrast and the resulting...
so far I have managed to forget to compensate for bellows' extension, to forget to set my lightmeter's iso setting to match my film, to forget to check for vignetting after using extensive movements,...
it has a diameter of approximately 23mm :)
Thankyou all.
Although it does cover 5x7, it looks like I would not be able to use the 315mm focal lenght with the camera I was planning to buy (a 5x7 nagaoka) due to the excessively long bellows...
I am planning to move into large format, and as my first lens I was considering the purchase of a Schneider Symmar 180mm convertible which I will use on a 5x7 camera.
Schneider's website states that...
