Re: A really nice cable release

I recommend Nikon AR-3 cable releases. Well made and not expensive. You can find them on Ebay. Get two; cable releases are easy to lose and can be broken.

Edit: Just looked the AR-3 up on Ebay...

Re: 4x10 how does it work and what do I need

One thing you should think about is how you are going to produce your work. Contact printing 4x10 negatives results in pretty small prints. If you can print them in the darkroom with an 8x10...

    Re: measuring for filter thread

Following on Brian’s suggestion, many old lenses don’t take screw in filters. The “threads” you see may be simply concentric grooves.

Re: nice new lens, but sticky shutter

A thing that has worked for me occasionally is to remove the lens cells, and then squirt a little lighter fluid into the shutter, and then exercise it. My guess is that it liquifies the previous...

We had a 45 acre man-caused fire near here last weekend. Luckily they caught it in time. They also arrested a guy who was involved.

  9. Re: Advice needed - Cleaning smudged groundglass

I don’t know about Horseman, but washing a ground glass will remove the lines on some ground glass screens. Take it slow and test on a corner.

Re: Problem with New Fujinon W 135mm f5.6

I’ve done this several times with gummy shutters and it frequently works. The main caution is to remove the glass before squirting lighter fluid into the shutter.

Re: What is my 4x5 area on the glass?

How about the whole groundglass? Try it. Make a film exposure and make a cell phone exposure of your groundglass. Compare. Trying things yourself versus asking questions is part of LF learning.

    Re: 150mm - 165mm for 4x10

I’ve been using the Angulon 165 as my wide lens on 4x10 and highly recommend it. Occasionally,I have used a SSXL 110, but don’t usually carry it.

    Re: Lens protection / Covers

Buy an inexpensive dial caliber with a millimeter scale. Measure the outside of the front and rear lens barrels and order from B&H. Kaiser is a good brand of slip on caps.

  21. Re: Light tripod and head for lightweight 4x5 and short lenses

When I want to go light, I use a Benro C227n6 with a RRS BH30 ballhead. Together they weigh four pounds. It’s a nice Gitzo-like CF tripod. I like it even better for medium format.
  22. Re: Help with opaque green stain after dev with PYROCAT-HD

Looks like the film was in contact with the drum. Assuming it is the non-emulsion side of the film, you may be able to re-fix it and it will go away. If it was the emulsion side, you had the film...

  33. Re: how to safely remove front lens cell from shutter body?

I’ve had luck getting sticky shutters going again by squirting some lighter fluid in the shutter and then working the mechanism. I take the lens elements out first.

  35. Re: how to safely remove front lens cell from shutter body?

Try a strap wrench. If you’re in the US, you can get a set of two inexpensively at Harbor Freight. There are lots of threads on the Forum about getting lens cells unstuck.

    Re: 5x7 Shen Hao TFC-57-B

A couple of comments: I owned a Shen-Hao for a brief period—not this model. It was a very well-made camera. The negative on that Shen-Hao was that it was heavy compared to comparable cameras.
