    Re: Rocks and stones

Very nice composition, not your everyday landscape choice of viewpoint. In my taste it could use a few deeper blacks only.

Re: What did you compose at Waters Edge?

Great work, very nice the silvery impression of the wet stones, worth a silver gelatin print! :)

Nice contribution to change our view on this image, and potentially on how we pick our scenes and make compositions, thnx

Re: 2 sheets of film in the same holder?

I am very enthusiastic about ADOX CHS 100 film. Wonderful tonal scale and no surprises when I follow Adox’s development advises. They pack the film sheets with paper sheets between them so you can’t...

Nice story Drew, we’ll keep our fingers crossed for your hip recovery and your decisive moment
  10. Re: Precision and Accuracy in LF Photography: How much is enough?

I reread my post but I cannot find the reason for that, sorry. I’m not a native English speaker, perhaps it’s that. I just told about my way of working, never had in mind to lecture anybody, neither...
  11. Re: Precision and Accuracy in LF Photography: How much is enough?

“It’s all very personal and subjective” is a too easy conversation stopper IMO. The subject is a much more important factor than personal taste or style of the photographer. In still life, portrait,...
  12. Re: 210 for travel and landscape: Heliar or Schneider?

Thnx Jim, nice photo from a time we had a choice in color films!
  13. Re: 210 for travel and landscape: Heliar or Schneider?

Yes that crossed my mind too, one Heliar 210 or the 150, 210 Claron and 300 together for the weight of ~one Heliar. I have three weeks left to wake up that one morning when I know what it’s gonna be.

@ “Any feedback on issues that you see would be very welcome!”:

I have always found FP4+ a very attractive film because it has a nice bit: deep blacks while the highlights aren’t blown too fast. I...

    Re: 300mm lens 4x5" landscape

I have a small and lightweight Nikkor 300mm, F9 I think, easy to get in Japan, but mark extra costs for import and inquire in advance with the seller. I used it with pleasure thus far. Itís just that...

Re: Show off your Large Format camera!

Great! Enjoy and good light! I was just interested because I’m preparing a trip with my gravelbike, packed with my Chamonix 4x5, a tripod and what’s needed further. As soon as the borders are open...

I will pray for you that you will reach this goal with an import from Japan. At least I had a heartattack when I received a Nikkor 300mm from Tokyo, about 125€ on top of the selling price. Check it...

Re: A few advise before I dive !

You can easily get this lens in MC version with modern smooth copal in Germany or Austria for 500€ with right of returning in 30 days. Imagine you should return to Japan, pfff. Stay in Europe, is...
  24. Re: 210 for travel and landscape: Heliar or Schneider?

Thanks! Just one more wish left, dry weather and good light in one pack. Hard to find on eBay.
  25. Re: 210 for travel and landscape: Heliar or Schneider?

Yes I love it, it weighs almost 900 grams though, so I leave it at home for my still lifes.
  26. Re: 210 for travel and landscape: Heliar or Schneider?

Thanks to all, I decided for the Repro-Claron, having checked with the reliable seller that it covers 4x5. Itís real flat and the only Nikkor-M 200 I could find at the moment was quite expensive plus...

  30. Re: 210 for travel and landscape: Heliar or Schneider?

Thanks, I dived into this because it really is compact, so I should have some space left for it. I found a Repro-Claron on a Linhof plate, is this very different? Looks excellent, seller asks 350€

It sure is worth the patience to let it repaired or substitute the shutter, really love this lens. Hold on!
  33. Re: 210 for travel and landscape: Heliar or Schneider?

Thanks to all of you! This was the little push I needed to choose with for the Schneider. Perhaps though I wonder what a 210 has more to say in landscape and I consider bringing my two lightweights...
  34. 210 for travel and landscape: Heliar or Schneider?

I’m planning a trip for landscape photography by gravelbike with my Chamonix 4x5 equipment and want to bring my 150 and a 210. I have the Heliar 210, which is the lens with character and weighs...
  35. Re: Which would be easier to build - 8x10 SLR or TLR?

Correct me if I am or understand you wrong but with a reflex viewer you always look from above and mostly in portrait mode, so youíll need a ladder in your case then
  36. Re: Which would be easier to build - 8x10 SLR or TLR?

I would go for the TLR too. Was my first thought. But if you could build a reflex viewer for 8x10, the ones that are available for 4x5, aren’t you almost there where you want to be? The Chamonix...

Re: Technique for focusing "into your scene"

I wonder what your goal is: everything sharp, landscape, portrait, stills? Esthetically, I mostly go for 1/3 front, 2/3 background and Iím seldom in for everything sharp, except with landscape.
  40. Re: Smallish back pack for Technika + 2 lenses + 3 film holders??

I have a Chamonix F2 with tripod head RRL, two small lenses and one 210, 6 filmholders in Chamonixís bag and a Gitzo tripod in the Osprey FarPoint 40. I can add a fresh T-shirt and a toothbrush for a...
