    Re: post your trees!

Agreed. One would think that, with as many of those trees as there are, photographing them would be like shooting fish in a barrel. Not so, in my experience!

Re: pan tilt tripod head repair?

Well, I ordered some tightening grease. I paid $17, including shipping, for an amount that would fill a large thimble! At first I was disappointed, but I only used about half of it to grease the...

Re: What did you compose at Waters Edge?

Show us the vertical! The "feeder creek" is cute, but I think it detracts from the falls and swirl.

Re: Landscapes! - (Any format smaller than 4x5)

That's really nice, John. I like the way you have filled out the frame, and just the little splash of color in an almost monochromatic scene.

Re: Landscapes! - (Any format smaller than 4x5)

Thanks! That rock is 6+ feet high, and sitting on a large flat area that is a former lake bed, probably marshy in the spring. There is maybe a 500 foot hillside behind the trees, with lots of basalt...

Re: pan tilt tripod head repair?

Thanks everyone. The head I have is Manfrotto. I found the video that Brian referenced, and I will try that approach first and see how it goes. Will probably try the disassembly today.

    pan tilt tripod head repair?

I happened into a tripod with a pan-tilt head. I really like using the head (in comparison with the ball heads on my other tripods), but it just doesn't tighten down enough, so moves after I set it....

    Re: post your trees!

I too find this photo quite appealing - well done! If it were mine, I'd consider cropping a little off the left side, top and bottom. Left side to change the balance a little, top and/or bottom to...

The foreground tree here is the same one as in my post on the previous page of this thread. After living with these images for a bit, I'm finding them interesting, but not particularly compelling....

I'm kind of with Alan, but it is up to you to render the scene as you see fit.

    Re: post your trees!

Here's what was a tree, a whitebark pine. As you can see, it had accumulated a lot of burls over its years. The bottom of the tree is actually the far end - the size of the near end is exaggerated a...
  20. Re: Paper recommendations for Portfolio of color digital prints?

If you took Bob's advice but found the Hot Press Natural too warm for your tastes, you could try Hot press Bright, which I like. It DOES have OBAs, I believe.

Re: What did you compose at Waters Edge?
