Technical perfection is a must. Who wants a gray, wrinkled, stinky, fixer laiden print with uneven borders and grain-motion artifact?
Some of the shorter Compomom_S lenses can easily be reassembled with lens elements not fully seated (and not crooked either) and still with plenty of room to affix the retaining ring. Making it seem...
Almost $5k for the 8x10 models...prices seem the highest since the brands inception.
Why are we here?
Self-assembling molecules.
Thanks for the picture. Sorry for being so stupid, the power supply for that head indeed indicates "Control Box" on the front.
Probably not hard to reproduce with generic components as interneg...
Can you post a picture of the light head currently on the enlarger. That would help figuring what is missing.
Last batch of high contrast film I tried to use for continuous tone reproduction, I did one of two things with standard developers. One was to dilute the developer over about five tank fills on the...
Great save!
I was just reading about springs in the on-line shutter repair course yesterday. You found a good solution.
Also, the way I look at it, shutter speeds are never ‘off,’ they are always...
I have never seen an Ixodes scapularis tic in real life, but CDC claims six were identified in the area but no Lyme Disease in last two decades. Either way I’m always on the lookout for one.
We are...

I believe the 5108 is a fully mechanical enlarger that requires no electronic supply or control box.
If the light source mounted on the enlarger is non-function due to lack of parts, you might...
“The” technique to increase the impression of more depth of field with a view camera is to align the focal plane with the subject. If the subject is a complex shape or space, then align front and...
This is sad, I was looking for some pictures of C252 enlargers and came across this one in Ukraine. Don't know what happened to it? Hope he can get it back or get back to it.

Welcome to the exclusive "Freestanding Enlarger" club. ;)
Keep us posted. Getting a new production enlarger these days is a big deal.
I have an 'Outside Lettered' Multicoated Fujinon 300/5.6 as my main 8x10 lens. I have never measured its exact coverage. However, on the Shen-Hao, it is almost impossible to adjust the camera to the...
Field camera or monorail?
Not sure about the Linhof crest, but the new badges supplied by Mercedes are plastic when the old ones were metal. I found this out with the Mercedes SL I'm currently restoring.

That looks like a huge bellows for a 75mm lens. Unless you are doing macro or planning on using 300mm and longer non-tele lenses, you might consider getting a shorter or even bag bellows.
The most difficult part can be getting even exposure across the field. Did you do a test exposure with ND filter only and check edge vs center. If it is not even, you could figure where each step...
Everything is a trade off. If the diffusion material is too close to the negative, any imperfection or dust might show in the print. A pragmatic approach would be to ignore an inch or so around the...
If it covers 11x14 at infinity it would have a lot of promise to work on your enlarger. Due to the angle of the rays at the edges of the frame and the distance from your light source to negative, you...
"Landscape" lens, so is that a cemented doublet? Is there some aperture mechanism in the snout?
Nice find!
All my 8x10 exhibit bowing due to the tension of the light trap. Maybe your holders exhibiting no bowing have faulty light traps.
Finding a new electronic board might be difficult and might only come in a replacement entire power supply. Repairing the existing board will require a lot of skill and experience with electrical...
I shoot almost all my 4x5 with a 150 lens. I can't tell what posts are sarcasm or not.
In the big picture of things, large format photography is not very common. Likewise nothing mentioned here matters.
The motor is under the top cap. You can check for voltage up there, realizing the motor is on all the time, but locked not moving if the buttons are not pressed.
Difficult but not impossible to get an idea of film format. As magnification increases, Dof decreases. Very shallow Dof of large objects cannot be achieved with small film formats.
For example...
The only way to expose 4x5 is with a 4x5 camera. So a 4x5 camera would only be useless to a non-photographer, or someone too lazy to use it for what it was intended ( to expose 4x5).
"Knowing" the film is knowing how it prints and how it responds to your meter settings. The best way to rapidly learn is to print the images the night they were exposed.
Nice job. Thanks for sharing.
Anyone trying to measure the shutterspeed of a leaf shutter needs to know how an aperture (shutter's iris or any aperture produced by the device) affects the results.
The correction is real and well known, but there isn’t film fast enough for the situation to arise in most large format photography.
Red= Smallest aperture (eg. f64 @ 1/500)
Blue = widest aperture...
I tried color both in the 1970s and in the early 1980s but found contrast control virtually non existent. I never went back.
Over 20 years ago I designed my current darkroom without a large sink to hold the trays. Washing the trays in the little sink is not fun, but otherwise, I'd have almost no dry counter space between...
If it is bolted to the wall it is no longer free standing.
Not shure of of the question, can you post a picture?
Probably a toss up with both types providing nearly identical function. I have both so these enlargers types. No colorful stories, just some comments from actual use of both types over 20 years:
