That's exactly what it is. I couldn't figure it out so I asked my wife if she could think of anything out there that it might be. She looked at the picture and said "looks like that big bar thingy on you camera". It's just funny that I never even thought about it being the rail.
1.6 seconds Arista 100 film. I counted and used my finger so actuall exposure be somewhat different.
I did not push the pin all the way through or clean the burrs off the back. I measure it with a micrometer at .43 mm, at 53mm from the film I figured it to be f123.
I did a couple of paper negatives at 6 seconds and they turned out about the same.
thanks for the info. i realize some may think the information would be moot since the size of the pinhole in each can would be different but it will get me close.
Just got to get some construction paper to make the top and im good to go. I have a fresh box of 50 sheets of Arista 100 film. I placed a ruined sheet of film inside the can lastnight just to see how it would fit and it looked good. cant wait to try it out.
Lots of mistakes in my first 8x10 exposure.

I must say, this remains one of my favorite threads.
I wish I could contribute something, but as you all know, I stopped making mistakes some time ago. Ha ha ha.
Actually, the key to not making any mistakes in large format photography is to not make any large format photographs.
Get out of this thread Granger, you don't belong here. :D
Only because I haven't been shooting much large format lately. Now, if someone started a "Medium Format Mistakes" thread, I'd be the king of that.
Oh please don't, this whole place is becoming tiny format users that used to shoot LF... Ugh I wish the would get rid of all the smaller than LF image thread areas or at least require them to be made on view-type cameras (like 2.25x3.25 mini-speed graphic would be fine but 35mm Canon 1V electronic auto-everything would not be).
Tiny format seems to be taking over the forum :/
(Don't get me wrong, yesterday I shot six 35mm, three 127, and four 120 rolls for a shoot, but this isn't the place for them, they have nothing to do with LF).
