Wonderful!! I'm fascinated by landscapes in various parts of the world, and always have wanted to visit Argentina.

In my opinion, you are much better with landscapes than people, with the exception of your simpler and tighter portraits. Clarity and vision vs false teenage sillyness.
Sorry for that.

I like the false teenage sillyness. It is interesting. Not everything needs to be uber-realistic, there is nothing wrong with a little bit of pretense.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Teenage sillyness trumps camp gay men everytime, forever and ever.

I like peopleless landscapes too, these were just already hosted and postable, I have a show's worth of landscapes without people.
Buy a print ;-) damn speeding tickets!

Recently shot on Rathtrevor Beach, Vancouver Island. Crown Graphic, Rollei R3@25, printed on Maco multibrom in Moersch lith.
This very popoular beach is pretty quiet once the summer weather departs.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Amazing. If I may ask, what paper did you use and what was the print process?
Great image of the icon!

Dear JR Steel,
Fabulous, fabulous images... :)
I must reconsider and explore Pyro as a developer, and do so quickly.
Nicely done.

Thanks for the encouraging words, Jim. I am new to 4x5 and had to leave a darkroom behind several years ago. Until I can get a new darkroom built, the Jobo 3010 drum is my only option for processing LF film. I am pleased with the results. I have admired your work for many years and really enjoy your website.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Ken, that is a very interesting image, particularly in terms of tonal range and contrast. I am wondering how much is due to mist, and how much to a choice of exposure and development.

David - That's what the scene looked like: a lot of fog. I tried fiddling with the contrast, but doing so, only made it feel un-natural. The image is already so "flat" in terms of perspective (long lens, distant scene) that any departure from a natural rendition, was a distraction rather than an improvement.

But there are no blacks! ;)
(As I'm writing this I'm thinking of your high key image shot out a white gazebo or something.)

Re: Large Format Landscapes
hey all,
here's a quick and dirty scan of a color contact sheet from Iceland. This set of waterfalls is called Dynjandi(Din-yun-dee).
please enjoy. more to follow(and better scans hopefully ;).

Re: Large Format Landscapes
ah, what the heck, how's about another one :)? again, please excuse the crappy scans, these are just all-in-one scans of color contact sheets. Drum scans of the film will be done when I can afford it :).
this is Jokulsarlon(yohkull-sarlohn), also known as the "Iceberg Lagoon". Abosolutely marvelous place! The ice flows from the glacier(Drangajokull(pronounced "dranga-yohkull") and out to sea, since this spot is located right on the coast, on the southern part of the country.

Brilliant. When you stop being a fanboy and react to something naturally, as you feel, rather than how you think others think or how you think you should think, the results are there. Even if it takes time to see it yourself.
I bet MAS would give a million dollars for a fresh pair of eyes.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
I like the grain, but I'm wondering how it was achieved. Massive cropping? Reticulation?
-
Re: Large Format Landscapes
Thanks Jon & Bettersense.
Bettersense, the grain was a result of some (not massive though) cropping and thereafter tweaking in Silver Efex. I believe i added quite abit of structure in that one.

Agreed on all counts. Great photo. There are times when I would like grain from my HP5+. I have 100+ sheets of HP5+ and always like what it does for me. How do we get grain?
Edit to add: Thanks for the information.

Hi Ghostdancer, this was taken in Tuas, an industrial area in Singapore. The shots were all taken on reclaimed name.
That's probably some sort of smoke stack or incinerator.

I wonder if it is used to incinerate protesters...oh wait, that's China.
