I've realized that using a public scanner isn't really that sweet. I'll have to endure the hardship until I can afford something on my own. Until then I'll use it for proof scanning negatives that I want to contact print. Is the contrast a bit too much in this image btw?

The contrast I'm seeing looks fine. Take a look at the landscapes of Morley Baer, particularly those in his book Stones of the Sur. Morley printed with bit of a heavy hand. But his images are stunning.

Thanks everyone. I'll get it printed when I get back from my trip. My darkroom skills are not as "good" as my digital editing skills, but I'll be sure to practice this summer.

Yes - we sense these nuances in the field, and wonder if they can be photographed. One reason I like shooting with film is the delay: we can't know for sure until after a positive image has been made. Sometimes we get lucky and the feeling comes through.
