I was thinking along the same lines -- but a wider lens and perhaps 2.5x10!
Bummer about the GG, Zaitz -- reminds me to have some transparent tape in my car for such emergencies!

Thank you both. For some reason I've never really liked panoramic type crops. I just don't feel the balance. But it probably would work better for this shot especially once printed out. B&W looks pretty good especially with the Velvia contrast. But I still don't think it makes the photo any better. Just felt like posting my only 8x10 :D.
I think it's quite boring as is. I prefer this approximate 4x5 crop from the 8x10

or this Provia shot from another day:

Though, I still am not too happy with them. I think a longer lens would have been much better. Now I have a 600mm but then I only had a 300.
Zaitz, that is why I have a darkslide that gives mes two 4x10's on a single sheet. I compose for the 4x10, rather than it being an after-thought. Problems of "balance" are worked through before the shutter is used.
But panos are not for everyone, I just find them fun and interesting.
Have fun with that 600mm -- I do not use mine much as I usually work in more confined spaces.
For the record, I'd happily trade some of my "successful" photos for your "disappointing" shots. ;) I think it's a beauty! (though I agree with others, that it might work best with a horizontal crop - I don't typically see things wider than about a 3:2 aspect ratio, but sometimes it just works)
Thanks. The 600 will come closer to replicating my 85mm on D300s. I'd like even longer though! We'll see how it works out.
:o Thanks. I wanted a more compression long range telephoto effect. I didn't have the lens so I tried to get in closer but the light came. That and the closer you get to the dunes the more the mountains disappeared behind them so I couldn't get too close. Oh well. I just don't respond to it in any crop for some reason. I really want a 150mm for 8x10 but $$$$$. 210 doesn't satisfy my wide angle needs/wants.

Felled in the 1980 eruption, thousands of dead trees still float on Spirit Lake.

B&W scans...underexposed and shadows blocked up because of that and possibly some development issues with a specialty Aero Ektar film, but oh well.
These are very big, as they are raw scans from an Aztek Premier.
