The tones are subdued: not many pure whites or pure blacks, if any. But that's how the subject looked: it was just before sunset, and the sun was filtered through a thin cloud. Had the light been harsh, the scene wouldn't have drawn much attention. Once the sun set, the scene became quite dull. The right kind of light made things... harmonious.
The tint is pretty easy to do: see Photoshop Fill Layer

The first on is Ponta da Piedade, close to Lagos, it was very early in the morning, you can see a fisherboat leaving Lagos.
The second is Rio Arade, in the Salinas, close to the modern brigde N125. Number 3 is Costa Vicentina, Arrifana, close to Aljezur.
