I went back and did a new conversion on a smaller file of the full size scan. It does appear that I can get some color out of it and the basic conversion keeps things in the 220-235 range. That I can work with and still arrive at either option I have previously put up and even a third version that does not accentuate the reds/yellows as much. This would also address my issue which was the bright spot which I did not really like. Now I am not saying this conversion is perfect either and I would need to do some more work on it before I reprocess, but this does show as you point out there is more there than white. Like I said, you get so wrapped up in your work you no longer see the forest because your wrapped up on a tree.

Sunrise, Shiprock
by Brandon
Off in the distance, where the lava dike ridgeline intersects with Shiprocks lower left base, is a pickup truck. Hard to see in this scanned version, but the window and door handle are clearly visible on the full-res scan.

Nice work Brandon. Like the Shiprock composition.

Thank you, Bryan. I fully understand forum member Robert Langham’s love of Shiprock-wish I were there for more than one sunrise. It’s awe-inspiring to behold.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Here is an updated version of Grand Canyon Torweep looking west. I was able to pull out a lot of detail in the upper right and not have anything blown out. There are a couple of small spots where a color channel hits 255, but other than that, it is good. I took a lot of what Coran put forth as ideas which is why I studied the sky more and realized there was a lot of detail there that I initially missed because I was too focused on the Canyon itself.
