Re: Large Format Landscapes
Take two here, to see what I could get with an even wider lens.
Mercury Universal Camera, 4x5 configuration, 47mm XL w/ Schneider 3B CF, T-Max 100, Pyrocat, roughly N-2 development:

What's better, this one or the previous one?
Re: Large Format Landscapes
Both are excellent in tonality and framing within the rocks. I like the initial one better, but likely because I know the scene. This one introduces too much light at the top and loses the mystery of the place. In summer you would have some greenery shading the upper portion so less contrast perhaps. Have you ever gone beyond the top of the rock to see if there are other falls nearby?
Just my $0.02
Re: Large Format Landscapes
Thanks for your thoughts Eric. That's true about the greenery, and it'll be a little warmer! I was even deeper this time in the pool. Didn't realize it got almost 3 feet deep, and I was getting pretty cold. I haven't been up top but I know you can - I've seen people at the top of the cliffs. My goal for the summer is to get IN to the cavern. I tried yesterday but I couldn't do it safely.
In the above, you can see some shafts of light if you look closely. I developed some more film and found another image that has those a bit more distinct. Hope I'm not boring everyone, but here's one more, a horizontal composition this time. I really like the light beams here. I waited for a couple hours for the sun to get higher and direct the light into the cave:

I think I might crop a little off the top here (for the reasons you gave about the other one) and give this one a shot in the darkroom. Fooling with it in Photoshop, it looks pretty good with 3/4 of an inch off the top.

I'm definitely digging the second, horizontal shot--but for me, the picture is "about" the crepuscular rays and the trees emerging out of the highlights...instead of shaving off the top, I'd look at a square crop, tightening the lighter rock on the right side of the frame.
Re: Large Format Landscapes
Thanks for your thoughts! But man I am a sucker for looming rock walls focusing in on a center point :). Will definitely play with things in the DR...might need to bust out my last little bit of 20x24 paper...

That is an awesome shot--I trust that it's printed big and hanging somewhere.:)
