During set-up, an owl flew-by, left-to-right, between the trunks, just like a field goal. (“It’s good!”) I think a barred owl, which enjoys daylight hunting; they seem curious and often “investigate” me in these woods. It was “flapping” its wings, but its flight was silent and eerie. Maybe it was showing off.
This mid-day scene is in the Olympic National Forest (outside the Park), Washington state. A sunny day in the rain forest – typical for the summer season. In the coming weeks, I’ll return to this spot for softer, less-contrasty light. Maybe do a study of that tree, arched in mourning. I like this hidden creek. I discovered it by walking up-stream from where it empties into the Pacific. I might pitch my tent for a night. And listen for owls…
