Michael, thats a part of the world I must see, just never happened. Needs too, what amazing vistas,
bob
Here’s some forest cover to complement the dramatic vistas above.
During set-up, an owl flew-by, left-to-right, between the trunks, just like a field goal. (“It’s good!”) I think a barred owl, which enjoys daylight hunting; they seem curious and often “investigate” me in these woods. It was “flapping” its wings, but its flight was silent and eerie. Maybe it was showing off.
This mid-day scene is in the Olympic National Forest (outside the Park), Washington state. A sunny day in the rain forest – typical for the summer season. In the coming weeks, I’ll return to this spot for softer, less-contrasty light. Maybe do a study of that tree, arched in mourning. I like this hidden creek. I discovered it by walking up-stream from where it empties into the Pacific. I might pitch my tent for a night. And listen for owls…

A couple of images from Death Valley this past February. Spent four mornings hiking above Zabriskie waiting for the sunrise. First one was on 5x7 film and the second one on 4x10 film.
