14 Minute exposure on Delta 100 4X5 processed in Rodinal.
90mm Super Angulon lens.
There's a two-stop ND grad filter over the top half in an attempt to get a stronger reflection from the water.

i think it would be indecent exposure:D :D :D

Jehu,
Nice shot. Is the apparent vignetting in the upper corners actually the limits of light from Boulder City/Las Vegas sky glow? I left the area just as the new bridge was under way - it appears awesome!

From an area called Sanddrif in the Cederberg, about 3 hours from Cape town. It was so cold i had to carry the tripod back to the car with the legs extended because my fingers wouldn't work the leg locks anymore...
Shot on velvia 100, with an ebony SV45ti and Nikkor SW 75mm with some kind of ND grad attached, can't remember which though.

Like the image, you got some great light. Great story to go with it too!

Wonderful colors under that dark, cloudy sky! I agree that the story to go with it is great :-)

Thanks civich. The lights of Las Vegas were pretty strong. This was during a full moon rising (camera left-rear). The stars were barely visible that night but the film didn't pick them up at all. The bridge span is complete. I think opening is still scheduled for some time later this year.

In-the-woods pictures are hard.
I've tried to capture the third one for years. This one is close to actually being there.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Rob - the Zion images are lovely. I particularly like the B&W (not that you asked, but it looks like a couple hotspots near the top of the sandstone might benefit from a little burning to pull out a little more detail).
It's been a couple years since I've been there, but out of curiosity was this taken along the road on the east side of the park (east of the tunnel)? I vaguely recall an area north of the road that this reminds me of (specifically that arch of missing stone near the top right). I was only there after dark shooting in moonlight, so I really couldn't say for sure - it just looked familiar. :)
Great work!

Andrew, your images are very nice. I like very much the texture, composition, and simplicity of them.

Same here, Andrew. The composition of the windmill photo is especially good in my opinion.

Thanks for the comments! Regarding the hotspots, looked at the large file again and the highest values hit 245-250 in some small areas. I think some information gets lost in the resizing and web presentation. Still it might benefit from additional work, this was my first edit but I also did not want that mesa to get muddy either. The wide color horizontal really gets trounced at this size and compression for web. It looks much, much better when printed large or seen at full res on screen. I was very disappointed to see how this one turned to mush on the forum.
You are correct the b&w image is on the east side of the park, quite a ways past the large tunnel and a small ways past the smaller tunnel on the east side but still west of Checkerboard Mesa. Good eye!
Thanks again.

Well, it doesn't look as though anything was clipped either (as you clearly already know) and you wouldn't want to muddy it by trying to burn in detail to harshly either. Again, it's great as is - I wouldn't be surprised it it's largely a result of compressing the size down for the web. I hate the way you lose detail when reducing the size - especially with Large Format work, which is capable of capturing so much detail. (It's a constant struggle).
Location-wise, that's about where I was thinking - I should dig up a photo and see if I actually visited that exact spot. :)

I posted an earlier shot from Upper Young Lake in Yosemite National Park, and here's another (my personal favorite). I loved this spot, though it was definitely challenging to backpack with Large Format gear. :-P

Hill and cloud, eastern Oregon. 4x5, 150mm. I have not figured out how to sharpen my images for this presentation - this image looks much better when I print it than it does here.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Gorgeous shot Tyler, I've seen it on flickr. Wonderful.
h2oman: great work, I think it suffers from compression. I've seen a very nice tutorial on sharpening on NPN.net, sorry don't remember the link. Works really well.

My modest contribution. I'm really more of an urban shooter, but I wanted to shoot some BW and get back in the darkroom so I've been trying to get my feet on top of some dirt.

Bravo. I really do think that woods and forest pictures are the ultimate challange. If you can make one that isn't just a jumble, you've really accomplished something.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
I'd love to get some feedback on these two which I'm working on for a call for entry. If you see anything that requires work, please let me know.
Velvia 100F and 300M for both. The second used an 81b and a 2 stop GND, the first, no filters. I'm thinking the second may benefit by cropping to a 3:2 ratio.
