One shaft of light, then the image was gone. Looking from Lottie Point on Fidalgo Island across a narrow channel to smaller island. (TriX, 150mm Schneider, yellow #8 filter, Toyo 45G) This is from last Spring - today rain's blowing in from the West at 40 mph.

Thanks SuperK, Professional. I didn't see your comment Randy but now I'm intrigued. Moderators, feel free to let it ride. I can take it! Honestly, I'm immune to criticism. The key is to just think that everyone's wrong. :)

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Gday guys,
My first contribution to any image sharing thread for LF!
I have no scanner at the moment, so just a couple of very very rough photo's of photo's. I simply taped them onto my tablet and took a photo with my digital >< terrible I know.
But here are the first couple anyway...
1. El Questro, Kimberley region, WA, Australia
http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3722/1...9ea25684_b.jpg
Taken on a Chamonix 4x5, with a Nikkor 210mm. On Delta 100 film.
2. Cathedral Gorge, Purnululu Nation Park, Kimberley region, WA, Australia
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5543/1...a5fdcd3c_b.jpg
Taken on a Chamonix 4x5 with a Nikkor 210mm. On Kodak Portra 160VC film.

thanks guys..
I think the horizontal helps emphasize the winding shape of the dune from left to right. while the vertical format would make this movement more confined.

Dan,
I see a distinct band of lighter density near the left side. Might this be your copying method or is it a problem with the negative itself?

Re: Large Format Landscapes
It's definitely my crappy previewing method Terry. :(

Soursobs:
CPL, 4x5 Provia, Fuji E-6 kit. Probably the 150/5.6 Nikkor-W on my Toyo 45A. Click-through for flickr.
Happily, I also shot this on Ektar so I can make a print.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Polyglot,
That photo of the meadow of yellow flowers looks seriously underexposed to me. Possibly by two stops.

No this is Provia. Ektar (shot as a second-sheet/backup/printable), once printed, is even more contrasty & colourful than this and I'll post a scan of the print once I make it.. The sky is dark because I was using a CPL and it was taken at about 3pm in mid-winter.

Under the trees, yes. But with any more exposure, the yellow flowers completely lose detail and saturation. I have another sheet shot at +0.5 and it looks bad.

I think your water is too alkaline, make sure you're using distilled water to mix with your chemistry and do the first and second rinse if your tap water is too basic.

Walking to Swirlyville
An experiment in tilt with the lens wide open. It feels fairly normal as long as your eye is centered on the family walking across the bridge. The plane of focus is roughly along the handrail, but it isn't a flat bridge and the boards swoop in and out of focus.
I don't know how I feel about such obvious tilting and shifting. It might be too pictorial for my taste, and it prevents the eye from wandering around the image comfortably.

It's very neat anyway, I think that it has good and bad points, you're right it does prevent the eye from wandering around the scene, and has that dizzying effect went to much is out of focus, however in the same right it also brings your eye directly to the subject matter at hand, just like this kind of thing is supposed to, and leads your eye that way rather than forcing it there directly from the beginning, so it has a nice affect overall.

Alright, no more shiftiness and tiltiness. A nice, normal shot of a wooden bridge in the Japanese garden, Newport News Park. The light through the trees was really pretty, which made it hard to keep the bridge as the central focus. I wound up shooting it from the backside. The standing stone behind the bridge is actually the back of a dedication plaque (coastal VA isn't known for its glacial erratics).

Thank-you, Stone. I'm still undecided. I think it either needs less or more swirliness. I might go back and try adding in some swing to isolate things horizontally.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Very, very nice. Liked it a lot. A great extract for both the color, the hue combination and the line arrangement of vertical plane vs. 45º plane. Good eye to spot these things, Harley.
