Larches in autumn sun, North Cascades, Washington.
The yellow needles will drop in a few days – just like leaves. The trees are naked in winter.
Their greatest glory is in the spring, when green needles start to reappear.

Funny, I feel that way about everything I show. This seems nice, I really like the colors/tones, but it's a little hard to tell because it's so tiny.

In fact I would have preferred to have used the 210 instead of the 90mm, but my auto aperture shutter was broken so I had Hobson's Choice.
Nevertheless, the peace and joy of sitting in this ridiculously beautiful place came back to me when I saw this, so it has emotional impact on at least one person. :)

I did the E6 myself, maybe that caused the blown out peaks.
I actually really love this. The tones completely envelop me, and it feels real, not like something from a dentist's office. I really do get a sense of being there, and the peacefulness and wonder it must have engendered.
Just clone out that ugly pentagonal lens flare! ;)
Re: Large Format Landscapes
Thank you!
I like the flare, though, so it's staying. :)
Plus I can't clone it from the slide, which is what I like to look at. Mmm.

Saw this scene while walking the canal path. Sometimes I struggle with photographs like this because the subject is not always obvious. I'm trying to capture the feeling of warm, early morning sunlight filtering through the trees and casting these wonderful shadows across the path.

Honestly, I really don't care either way. But if your going to show it to others (share) then it detracts from the scene. I want to experience the location through your vision, an optical defect of the process is not an addition to that.

Re: Large Format Landscapes
Hehe. Well, I don't know. I see people posting Petzval distorted alternative processed grainy blue brown red smudged selective focus shots with watermarks, I can't imagine my flare is the worst distraction. Besides, I wear glasses and they're always smudged so I actually DO see optical artifacts. ;)
ps - don't mistake this for noob arrogance. I am in fact trying to learn as much as I can from you guys, and take what you say seriously. The pictures posted here are usually of very high standard, and I try to see what it is that make them good. Some times it IS the distortion or the alternative process, sometimes it's completely impossible for me to say WHY they're great, but they're always inspiring.
From another forum I learned very quickly that some people won't look at your picture if the horizon isn't straight.
Over there they seem to LIKE flares, though. :)
It's fun to see what everybody thinks is good and important and PLEASE don't think I post because I think my shots are great.
Thanks for commenting.
And posting pictures.

Boy do I ever know that feeling. I can typically predict too which photos people will generally like, and which won't get much love - it's usually opposite to my own likes and dislikes. I think this turned out beautifully - I can see why you would love it too. I suspect the chrome looks fantastic (it never translates as well on-screen).

Finally got around to scanning a shot from Zion National Park (Feb 2009) - I didn't think the negative looked that good, so last night was the first time I saw it "positive" and I like the results afterall.

That's nice, Joe. I like it.
