A more logical explanation could possibly be homo sapiens creating the pile to burn it. Sauvie Island is in a highly populated area with farm land and near an international airport. Even much larger burn piles are created by homo sapiens of the logging variety when they clear an area.

Yes. See related photo of brush burning on page 118 of this thread if interested. It would have been more interesting if it'd been made by a Sasquatch though... Or a bird! Just think of the bird that would make such a nest!

I'm going with the Sasquatch theory. Seems far more plausible to me.

Yes it has been noted that the growing population of Sasquatch on the island has led to the burning of the beds..
