Any LF shots for us gearheads?
If someone would PM me, I'll upload some shots of a '53 Jag from some 4X5 negs I shot this week. I can't seem to get the hang of uploading images here.
'41 Chevy fully restored except for paint. Flagstaff, AZ. It took the owner about 20 years with the last part taking almost 10 years to find. That was the grill which he finally found in Argentina in 2008.

Let's see if this works.
These shots were taken last Tuesday at a showroom for a company that restores vintage
British, German and Italian cars. The whole showroom was full of primo classics with little room to move around. Sort of impromptu shoot with 4X5 to test the waters. I'll have shots of an Allard MK11 soon to show, this was a '53 Jag.
I can look at old Jags all day long. Thanks!
When I was 18 years old my grandparents who I was living with went on an extended trip to Mexico with lifelong friends who left a black 1953 Jaguar 120 Drophead in the garage with instructions to start the engine once a week.
Can you imagine anything more foolish :D:D
I had grown up (such as that can be defined at 18) around Model A Fords, so non-sychromesh transmissions were not a problem. My memory is that the Jag had lush long gears with a motor that loved being revved. Still music in my ears 40 years later. We lived in a canyon with a 2 lane curvy road. I didn't act foolishly, but I did make it sing........just a little.
Hmmm. I wonder now but will never know, did Mr. Keller write his mileage down before he left as a reference? And if he did was there wagering involved? The Jag was ready to go when they all returned home.
Great shots, all!

Jim, I frequent your site to check out whats new in the old car post. Once a gear head, always a gear head. I also think it's a generational thing, we grew up with cars from the 40s', 50's, and 60's. It seem that they stopped making anything classy from the 70's on. When we were kids we played on an old motorcycle leaning against the fence of a neighbors house. It had a leather belt drive to the rear wheel, two cylinders, and looked like an overgrown bike with a long gas tank. Wonder what it was. In any case, motorcycles have been a part of our lives ever since. I currently drive a sidecar rig and use it often to go on shoots. The sidecar is great for gear, and I can get off the road and into places easier than I can with my F-150. Keep em coming, Jim.

I believe this is a Model A because I believe that's what Jim said when I posted it a couple years ago.

Dear Mark;
My cousin is a Zundap and Ducati nut. He'll go nuts when he sees these. Man that G Claron is a fantastic lens.

Mark this last shot is really nice!
Steve Renwick, an unusual view of what I think is a Lockheed PV-2 Harpoon. Got any more?
OK - I'll play. I have photographed this old truck neat Half Moon Bay, California, twice. Not entirely happy with this, so will probably go back. Still learnin' LF.

Another shot, done in a studio, 1942 Allard. Shot with Sinar Norma 4X5, Schneider 180mm lens, HP5 developed in D76, scanned on Epson V750.
Correction. It's a '51 Allard MK11, not a '42.
Here's four images of old cars/trucks but with a little "closer" take on the cars. As I recall, these were from a couple of old vehicles in Silverton, CO. Jim
Old Chevy, old cabin, old woods, old lens, grand old flag (even grand old film). Canham 8x10 with 4x10 reducing back, Kodak E100VS, 305mm Kodak Portrait Lens at f/4.8 with a 0.9 ND filter.
Larry
I wouldn't mind that Allard, even if was a '51.
The film was either E100VS or Velvia 50. I will often take two pieces of film on the same shot just to see the difference between the two emulsions. Must admit, these old vehicles had some great color. Had to wait for the sun to move to the west so I could shoot the shaded side. It was amazing how fast 4 hours went by. Jim
I'm not sure if these qualify, but here ya go:

My first time shooting a car. I always wanted to but just had never had the opportunity. Here goes: Schneider 210mm at f/16, heavy front tilt (too much I think, missed the wiper blades a little). TMax 100:

My new to me Speed Graphic...... I spent some real time getting the RF adjusted but I am very happy with it now. The following 2 frames were both shot though the RF.

Can you remember what aperture you were using? Were you shooting handheld? Those pictures look like they have a lot of DOF, but whenever I go out with the speed graphic, I am always disappointed at my inability to get good DOF and still maintain the 1/60th or so that I need for handheld shooting.Quote:

There is almost nthing in this world I am anal about but this one thing; I take notes :):
both shots tripod using RF to focus and VF to set up shot
Shanghai 100@80
13min rodinal 1:50 for 12 min
top frame:
F32
meter = 40'
add repcropricty for total exposure 605'
focus point was the power steerign pressure hose on the right hand front of the frame. I should have grabbed a focus point furthur to the back of the frame to get all of the background in focus.
Bottom frame:
F32
meter = 13.5s
add repcropricty for total exposure 120'
focus point was the frame rear cross member in the center middle of the frame I am happy with the DOF but the very front gets soft. I did not even try to wrangle some sort of fake front rear tilt to get the very front sharp but, had I done so, the frotn should be as sharp as the rear.
What i learned from this series of 6 frames:
Trust the reprocitcy tables! I almost decided the 10min and 2 min exposure for frame were too long...nope; this is a straight scan with no messing with and the exposure is great.
even with small f stop placement of the focus point really makes a difference!
I have not done it with this graphic yet but I generally shoot 400 or 800 to keep the shutter speed high enough to hand hold.
Hi Jim! Love the effects of your uploaded photos. keep sharing! Thanks!
