Hi also from Holland
Hi,
My name is Peter. I am 35 years old and live in Maastricht the Netherlands. I picked up my large format camera today. I am completely new to this and haven't got much of a clue what to do with this monstruos thing I bought. It is a Cambo 8x10 camera wit a 30 cm lens. It also has a back for a 4x5 things.
I started to be serious with photography about two years ago.
I think I will be here a lot to learn and get heaps of info.
Cheerio,
Peter

Re: Hi also from Holland
Maastricht? Doesn't everyone there play the violin? :)
Welcome aboard,Peter! 8x10 is a blast!
Which model Cambo do you have? Have you a tripod that will safely hold it?
Did any film holders come with it?
The 30cm lens is considered "normal" and is a very useful focal length. Are you shooting landscapes? Portraits? Architecture? Violins? :)

Re: Hi also from Holland
Hi Peter-- Welcome to the forum. I used to work for Organon Technika/Akzo and visited Den Bosch frequently for business. Every weekend, I'd take a short trip and once I visited Maastricht. What a beautiful little city! I'm sure you'll have a great time with your Cambo 8x10, but you better get a cart to wheel that thing around. :) I'm just getting into 8x10 myself and it's a joy and a challenge. Good luck.

Re: Hi also from Holland
Nice that you joined LF. I am also living in Holland. I would like to inform you that there will be a gathering in Maastricht on october 18. Although not all participants use large format there will be at least 5-6 large format enthusiasts with some of them considerable experienced. If you are interested you could send me a PM.

Re: Hi also from Holland
Thanks all. When I bought the camera I thought it would be a 4x5. But it is not. To be honoust I haven't got a clue what I can do with it. I played around with a TC once and thought it was nice and complicated. So I am lookin for someone near Maastricht to teach me a bit how to use it. A polaroid filmholder came with it. Also some backs for 4x5 film and different matglasses for 8x10 and 4x5.
I don't know what type it is or if Cambo is a good brand (well they exist for 60 years now so they must be doing something good)
@John I am considering shooting violins but I don't have a gun yet ;-)
@ Gary thanks for the tip I will put the data in my agenda.

Re: Hi also from Holland
Hello Peter,
is it the one from Abro that was on sale lately? I was thinking about taking it, but then again, I already have too much cameras.
You won't be much with the Polaroid holder, the film is discontinued.
Welcome!
Geert

Hi Peter,
To learn to work with your camera, take a look at the static pages of this site, if you have not already done so : http://www.largeformatphotography.info/
For books I recommend A Users Guide to the View Camera by Jim Stone and View Camera Technique by Leslie Stroebel. Both are available in Holland through bol.com.
I am not living near you (Den Haag), but you can contact me if you have questions.
Veel plezier met je camera.
