Brand new Chamonix 045Hs-1 and the ground glass problem
Hi, after two years working with Graflex, I decided to upgrade to a new camera with more movement capabilities.
I choosed Chamonix Hs-1 with Fresnel option (extra cost). This week I finally received the beauty, however there is a problem with the ground glass.
Please excuse the crappy cell phone photo, I hope it shows the problem:

There are small bright spots ALL OVER the GG, but visible only at the certain angle.
It is a distraction and obviously I expect the brand new camera would be defect free.
I contacted the e-bay seller and I've got following answer:
I asked factory about the tiny white spots, they said it just the granules of the GG,they were looked brighter after Fresnel lens, it's not defective, but need to adapt that.
My suggestion is you could try to take off the protective glass and Fresnel glass to test again,if that's good for you,I will refund you Fresnel lens price $40.If you are still not fully satisfied with our camera then, we accept you return and we will refund you.
So, it looks like every Chamonix camera has the same problem. Is it true? I'd appreciate any advice.
JaZ.

JaZ,
Hello. I have an Hs-1 as well and my camera does not have this problem at all. You might try contacting the Chamonix rep Hugo Zhang (hugoz_2000@yahoo.com). He has always been very helpful to me.
Best,
Austin

I've never had that issue with my chamonix 4x5's. I have seen similar spots on ground glasses of cameras due to water spots. Maybe take it apart and wipe it down, it could be trapped moisture.

I've a second hand F1 with the fresnel and I've not that issue!
Good luck!
Cheers

You vere right on the money! Turned out it was some kind of oil residue, easily removed with Propanol. Thank you and other for responses.
That makes me wonder, what kind of response I've got from the seller and supposedly from the factory.....
