Re: Post Your Hiking Photos - Any Format
CB, I like your shot, it is beautiful! Planned to go to Porters Creek, but too tired. We missed Cavers and went on Foothills Parkway. We will go to Porters Creek sometime. May you list here some good trails and places for day hiking and large format BW in great Smoky Mountains National Park? Thanks!

Never, ever, miss Carver's...;) (If you didn't pass it this trip, the restaurant/orchard is back on Hwy. 321 toward Newport...I always try to stop by this time of year and get a bushel of Pippin's to load into my dehydrator.)
At any rate, I think photography in the GSMNP is mostly of matter of lucking into good light and a finding a gap in the rhododendron. If I had to make a suggestion, it would be to commit to camping in one of the "front country" campsites (e.g. Smokemont, Deep Creek, or Elkmont over here on the Tennessee side) for a few days--you really need a little "loiter time" to scout and to get a feel for how the light progresses over the course of a day.
Look forward to seeing how the Rock Creek shot turned out...

CB, thanks! No camping this time, hope I can do it next time. The park is beautiful!

Found another, I not touch or even move the grass
It matches The Feather but way smaller, she must be in my thicket

Excellent, good to see the finished work.:) For myself, these creek scenes are hard to visualize in B&W--moss and rhododendron leaves seem to want to go a little too dark for my tastes. Just before it was discontinued I was trying to get a feel for Acros used with a #13 B+W Green filter:

With Acros gone, I think I might like to experiment with X-ray film (as suggested, IIRC, by John Layton here in the Forum).

CB, A nice shot! We hiked on Porters Creek Trail and went to the Falls last day in Great Smoky Mountains NP. It was a pleasant hike. There are so many opportunities to take photos along the creek. We will go back to the park again!

Excellent, I'm assuming you went to Ramsey Cascades? That sounds like a nice day--though you'd have to manage a pretty wide lens if you had planned any photography there.;)
