Re: New De Vere 5108 Owner
Congratulations, it looks like a new machine. I have a 5108 I transported from a garage in Detroit to my darkroom in SW Florida. Well worth the effort.
Several of us here have this machine, let us know if you need any help!

Lucky find ! But maybe it was there because chickens do darkroom work cheaper than humans. Or perhaps they contribute something special to the developer. Albumen prints perhaps? It looks beautiful.

Very nice!
A friend had one a while back but was at a loss due to no negative carrier. This turned out to be a real stumbling block for him. I sent him this picture to help him make one, but I don't think he ever did and wound up selling the enlarger.

Re: New De Vere 5108 Owner
I sold mine about 10 years ago, but I occasionally needed DeVere parts, and KHB often had them: http://store.khbphotografix.com/home.php
Good luck!

Greg, was it in a storage unit in Fort Myers, I saw one there about a year or two ago, I already had mine when I saw this one. The guy had a pile of stuff, tons of lenses, no great deals as I recall. I paid up for a print washer that he had.
Re: New De Vere 5108 Owner
Thanks for the kind words. I am designing a full set of masks including J Lane, and an updated neg carrier to be done on cnc. Will make extra for sale!
Any input on what’s good and bad be helpful. I am thinking every mask is cut from 8x10 size insert to save the hassle of the frame within frame...
Re: New De Vere 5108 Owner
I can’t help with your DeVere but I saw you on tour in 91 and 93. Awesome shows.

I would be interested in well made carriers. I could use a custom size, 5x8 inch, I shoot a lot with that format. I made a crude 4x5 holder because I couldn’t find the proper DeVere one.

Re: New De Vere 5108 Owner
You could get a 5x8 carrier frame similar to the 6x17 carrier insert made by DeVere.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the shows
Re: New De Vere 5108 Owner
I am cadding up a drawing now. Can anyone advise how much smaller mask sizes should be than film size to stop neg falling through?
Re: New De Vere 5108 Owner
I use 3 different types of film stretchers, no glass allowed
Some say no no! I find they work well
http://www.glennview.com/ can make almost anything and has his own design glassless
4X5 Beseler Neg-A-Flat
5X7 and 8X10 Saltzman
The slickest is Calumet 8X10 Glassless
They require very careful handling and exacting procedure. I have 2, they are worthless if damaged even slightly
I hear incoming...
Re: New De Vere 5108 Owner
Glassless Neg Holders
I do think location matters, as I live in humidity not desert sandstorms
glassless has only 2 film surfaces to keep dustless and clean
Glass adds 4 more = 6

Tin Can, thanks for the Glennview reminder. I didn’t know he was still around.
Re: New De Vere 5108 Owner
Measuring my DeVere carrier inserts and my LPL carriers, I get:
135 38.5 x 24 mm
6x6 58.7x58.7 mm
6x7 58.7x71.3 mm
6x9 58.7x81.8 mm

Re: New De Vere 5108 Owner
I am going to buy a De vere 5108 enlarger.
If you are selling an enlarger please contact me.
Re: New De Vere 5108 Owner
I am getting lots of PMs asking me how much my enlarger is, maybe I posted in the wrong section. The enlarger is most definitely not for sale! I haven't even used it yet!!
Thanks Luis for the dims, much appreciated!

Neg carrier design update:
Attachment 215665
Attachment 215666
The idea is that the top and bottom attach with rare earth magnets. Top piece has AN Glass, bottom piece takes 8x10 film plus 8x10 plain glass, or a speed plate. I am designing inserts which go in this hole for most of the J Lane plates, as well as common sheet film sizes. These inserts are 8x10 with smaller holes cut for different film sizes. The whole lot will be cnc cut on Dibond rather than solid aluminium (4mm top 4mm bottom, 4mm rebated inserts)
Re: New De Vere 5108 Owner
The red crosses are working lines showing centre, ignore these!
Re: New De Vere 5108 Owner
I would appreciate any input on features and general design
Re: New De Vere 5108 Owner
Durst uses the same 10x10 glass for all formats. There are masking inserts that snap in below the bottom glass for the smaller formats.
