strange lens question GOERZ DOUBLE ANASTIGMAT 9 1/2
the lens is goerz double anastigmat U.S.P. 635472 TYPE B series Ib No 4 FOCUS 9 1/2 the opening of the iris is 2.0 inches in daimeter does anyone know anything about this lens I cant seem to find it anywhere the aperture scale starts at 1.8 and goes to 256 but the iris is very damaged
any info about this lens i can get would be very cool

thanks its pretty interesting i wish it had an iris maybe il gut it out and give it some waterhouse stops

I remember many years ago, it took me quite awhile to figure out a Goerz Double-Anastigmat Series Ib is a 4-element Celor/Artar formula, while a Double-Anastigmat Series III is a 6 element Dagor formula. I think that was in the days before internet, so I probably learned the difference in the two Series from "Handbook of Photography" by Henney and Dudley.
darkroomdivision9 - The weird aperture scale sounds like it is probably the old US (Uniform System) stops. You can research that one too. Unfortunate that the aperture isn't functioning.

Sometimes an iris can be repaired if it isn't too damaged. The numbers are from an obsolete system but the anchor is f16. It's the same in both system's, so you can count stops either side of 16 if you get the iris working.
