Large Format Photographers to benefit cancer event
Already 35 Large Format photographers from around the country have signed on for a project that the New England Large Format Photography Collective has initiated in conjunction with the Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center here in central Connecticut.
We are still looking for 15 more Large Format photographers to get involved in what has turned into a who's who of Large Format photogs from around the country. The list is quite impressive and we encourage any LF photog to e mail steve@steve-sherman.com if you would like still further information.
Here’s how the event works,
NELFPC is soliciting 50 Large Format photographers to donate 3 different images (must be film generated 4x5 or larger negatives) matted acid free neutral white in either of three different outside dimensions, 14x18, 16x20 or 15x25. In return for the three donated images each photographer will receive a numbered ticket, a corresponding numbered ticket will be drawn at random and exchanged for a LF photograph of their choice and at no charge to the photographer. The remaining 100 tickets (50 total photogs, 150 images) will be sold to art patrons, doctors and hospital supporters for $175.00 a piece. On November 5th during a cocktail reception each ticket will be drawn and a LF photograph awarded to the holder of that numbered ticket. All monies are collected by the Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center; no proceeds whatsoever go to NELFPC. In fact NELFPC will incur some un reimbursed expenses. Naturally, all donations are tax deductible.
Middlesex Hospital has a strong connection to a noted photography collector's family. They are proud owners of many masterpieces by Weston, Adams and even a Steigliz in their collection of over 250 prints.
The gala event is scheduled for Monday Nov. 5th, 2007. The reception will be catered with food and spirit. Much local advertising is planned both print and local radio. It is the hospital's hope that NPR radio will accept an invitation to publicize the event as they have supported the hospital in the past.
You may visit our developing web site at www.NELFPC.com to keep track of the event.
Re: Large Format Photographers to benefit cancer event
Sounds like a wonderful idea, Steve, and for a great cause. Do the photographers have to be present at the event to participate? If not, how will they choose the photo they will exchange their ticket for?
Best of luck!

Re: Large Format Photographers to benefit cancer event
Brian,
Each photographer will submit three different images along with web quality Jpegs of each photograph. These Jpegs will be uploaded to our new and developing web site www.NELFPC.com. Photographers can then browse the site and submit a sequential list of their preferences. When the drawing begins one of the 18 NELFPC members will act as a proxy and make your selection and image will be forwarded to it’s new owner.
If for whatever reason a photographer cannot supply Jpegs NELFPC will digitally record photographer’s work and upload files to the web site several weeks ahead of the Novemeber 5th event.
The project is really beginning to take off with LF photographers from around the country donating their work.
Thanks for your interest.
Steve Sherman

Well, this seems to be a worthy cause, count me in. Who do I send the Jpegs to?

Re: Large Format Photographers to benefit cancer event
Greetings again,
We are at 45 LF photographers and closing in on 50. The few remaining spots probably won't last the weekend.
Cheers to those who have responded to date!

Re: Large Format Photographers to benefit cancer event
Greetings,
Several LF photogs have had to back out of the project with good reason. We are again at 45 LF photogs and would still like to reach 50.
Terrific project and wonderful company to be in, give it some thought.
Cheers! Steve Sherman

I see the event is Nov 5th but when do the photographs need to be sent in?
