I lived on Aramingo Avenue in Philadelphia, in the block between Memphis and Anne Streets, until I was 10 years old. It
was not very far from this place.
We used to take the bus up to K&A to go shopping, or see the doctor, or to get the El to visit relatives or go downtown.
There were many small shops, including a place where you could buy "tropical fish" for your aquarium.
It was a prosperous middle-class, working class community then. There was a parish not far from there where the Mass
was said in Polish, and on my street, the Italians lived on one side and the Irish on the other, but we all went to Saint Anne's,
which is still a going concern, though the school (which I attended, as did my Mother) is now closed.
K&A is now one of the worst places in Philadelphia. There is so much waste in the world, it is sad.
