New light box from Home Depot
I just got through installing a new light table in my darkroom, from Home Depot!

Its a surface mount fixture so all I had to cut out of the work table was a hole for wiring and a cutout for the light switch. Wiring was simple, running the black wire through the switch and wire nuts on the rest. You need to use a grounded cord, I sacrificed an old power strip to get mine.

This is a photo box, an artist box or an X-ray box or something else? They all have different output levels and color temp and CRI values.

Its a lamp fixture repurposed for a negative viewer. Doesnt need to have any critical values except to light up and give you a place to throw your neg sleeve down on it and study the film with your magnifier. Dont over think it.

Unless you want the proper output to be able to properly evaluate shadow and highlights. Then it is important.

Yeah, thats what my densitometer is for. Dont be a killjoy, I have a better lightbox for $40 than Ive had before and didnt have to do much building to get it. I dont run a pro service so I dont need anything fancy, just like the majority of budget minded darkroom enthusiasts out there. B&W negs are easy to deal with, no color trannies.

I have been using the same one for several months. I fitted mine with stick-on feet and a switched extension cord. Works great!
Re: New light box from Home Depot
I have several lighting surfaces - A very critically balanced one for precise color evaluations or even backlit copy work, a big one great for sorting out chromes and negatives but not worthy of anything fussy, and a couple of small portable one so-so in color quality. Just depends on what one actually needs. If you're a color film photographer, Cheapo Depot is not the place to go except for perhaps a sorting surface. But never ever trust UL ratings on Depot items. Make sure the wiring looks legit. Fortunately, LED panels don't get hot like halogen lighting.

Exactly that Drew, its what I need for sorting and aligning the negs in the carriers. It can be set on different color temperatures and I like it on 5000k but theres no telling how accurate that label is. Thanks for clarifying.
