Flextight holder that allows full frame scanning of 4x5 negative?
Does this exist?
I messaged the maker of the custom holders in China on eBay but have not heard back yet.
I understand that that there is concern with the negative bending as it scans that making the cutout in the holder larger could result in the negative popping out mid scan...
Has anyone figured out a solution, by for instance, modifying their original holder with a utility blade ?
Re: Flextight holder that allows full frame scanning of 4x5 negative?
I am using a Flextight 4x5 holder purchased from eBay.
The image area size is 97x122mm. (Currently, there was a 97x127mm holder.)
There are no problems when scanning, but the rubber material is very weak.
Anyway, I no longer use the original 4x5 Flextight holder.

If I've had to do it, I've resorted to shift and stitch from 4 scans - but there's plenty material for the holder to hang on to while still giving adequate rebate. Can't say I've had a 4x5 neg escape yet...

Thanks a lot, good to know, I thought I remembered seeing one on there a while back...I think the 127 is too big....Hopefully the seller messages me back and can make more available.

I've also done that shift and stitch - it works but not how I want to spend my hours on earth....can be quite time consuming to do it properly compared to one shot with the proper sized opening

I trust the seller will get back to you. He is happy to make custom sizes, simply tell him what you want. The quality is fine and when I ordered my custom holder he was pretty quick and easy to work with. Good luck!

Very definitely agree! Though I've often used the 120 holder shift-and-stitch style to get 3200ppi scans of 9x12cm film - relatively painless - the speed of the X5 definitely helps.
