DIY 14X17" Camera with crazy ideas
I started this 6 years ago, but had to move, so I did, hopefully my last ever move
When I find my old notes I will post here
A second and third goal is power focus, then auto focus, as I will need both eventually
This is 8020 extrusions all cut to exact dims, anodized even threaded SAE as requested
Actually I an glad I waited, as parts have improved, I have many already

Looks good, Randy!
A Cnc style drive system would likely work well, i.e. two round rails for alignment along with a ball screw and a stepper motor. Use something like an Arduino with a motor board to drive it.

Exactly, this stuff is ready
Some Robotics gear will focus, proximity sensors
I have been testing this stuff for a while https://www.pololu.com/category/21/m...cal-components
My goal is head shots, not trees

I have NOS Medical 14X17 holders, heavy but very good for studio
and plenty of 14x17 Ektascan
also 2X 14X17 is still sold fresh

Demented, as usual! Thumbs up! If you made the AF external, it could follow-focus along with your subject wobble. DOF must be just about nothing.
Re: DIY 14X17" Camera with crazy ideas
Hmmm...if you are thinking auto focus - would there be a way to also incorporate "auto tilt/swing?"
This could incorporate a movable auto focus sensor (thinking of a wand which you'd insert into the film-holder slot, like that film plane meter from Sinar?)...with which you would locate at least three (to define a plane) desired points of focus, at which point the motors (you know...the motors!) would then re-adjust the camera to accommodate these points.
How cool would that be?

Very cool John!
Maybe later, maybe not
I am not Elon Musk

Here is 75% of my bits, I need to dig
The new Custom bellows dates back 5 years, it was made for 10" lensboards
The Cambo Horseman 8X10 Frame are my spare parts, the bellows go on one side and the lens the other
I was going to make this thing folding, but have changed it to slide shorter
The back will be Baltic Birch 24X24 with only portrait position......maybe
To keep it really simple the DDS will slide in with fold up and over GG
I already made a simple headrest...
The 2 wheels are heavy duty cart wheels, with no flat tires, 15mm axle, design TBD
To the right is my trusty Levy camera, I may convert it even easier to 14X17

Maybe new simpler design
Emulating this guy, bellows on a board
but not his back system
