Re: The beginnings of yet another darkroom
Yes, thanks for the excellent safety advise. A GFCI outlet will be installed in the only outlet available on the ceiling. That outlet ended up being very conveniently located though.
Now, this is where it gets weird…
The dark is provided by a very light tight Ilford popup darkroom!

Not too elegant, and I had trouble because it didn’t fit in my basement with only 7’ ceilings. I ended up drilling holes in my joists to make it fit. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...44abb679bb.jpg
Here is the enlarging cart rolled in.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6929857cb7.jpg
Here is the outlet that is just the right place for the cord for the cart.

Now that I have a darkroom tent, I see wet plate processes in my future!

Well, I am with you
Just bought the Ilford Tent on BH promo
I have at least 3 ways I MAY use it
I was going to buy an Eskimo ice fish tent
Re: The beginnings of yet another darkroom
Hey maybe I will use mine for spearing fish through the ice! Did that as a kid and it was great fun. Got a 20 lb Northern Pike.

Re: The beginnings of yet another darkroom
Way up in MN we had a bit of lakeshore
The biggest Pike in the 50's to get caught was 23lb
The old man was so proud he went by boat to every dock or beach to show us
I caught Sunnies, cooked them immediately in butter
Best fish I ever ate

These tents are really pretty awesome. You need to find some more print tubes for cheap. Well played!
Re: The beginnings of yet another darkroom
Back to the drawing board and a reset of the space.

The tent was doing the job well, but I found myself doing mostly black and white in tubes. This was too tedious a workflow for me. Zipping and unzipping the tent door wasn’t too much of a pain, but having to process each sheet of paper one at a time and cleaning the processing tube was. Time now for trays and that means darkness around the sink.
Going up now will be walls, wiring, door and a vent fan. The size will be tiny, but this will leave a work area under one window and access to another window that has reliable morning sun where I will be able to open it and make alternate process contact prints.
Behold and observe the construction of Tiny Darkroom!

Re: The beginnings of yet another darkroom
I struggled with basement windows for a long time as well and how to cleanly block the light. In the end I just framed a darkroom in a corner of the basement with no windows and added insulation and electricity in the 2x4 walls and a pocket door. The sink stays where it is, by the washer and window, similar to yours. So basically I have a dry darkroom for some processes where I need to haul water into the framed room, but things like the Jobo and washing prints go over to the sink.
Re: The beginnings of yet another darkroom
Fortunately everything but the sun exposure will be inside the darkroom. I started some framing this morning but had to stop when my masonry bit dulled. You can see from the picture how tiny this darkroom is going to be.

Re: The beginnings of yet another darkroom
Framing mostly complete. This is reminding me of the darkroom that my dad built for me when I was a teen, but with the temperature controlled water and wall to wall sink I wished I had.

Re: The beginnings of yet another darkroom
Nice! My Dad built my first darkroom with 2x2 studs and cardboard. Had to walk to a laundry sink. Lots of fun!!!
