Post your Route 66 photos!

There is a lot of interest (especially internationally) Route 66, and I was surprised that I couldn't find a specific thread of Route 66 photos in Image Sharing and Discussion. The The Mother Road's original route is about half a mile north of my house, as it winds through Oklahoma City, so it's not much of a drive for me to make the first few posts. :)

The State of Oklahoma has done a great job of making the entire route drivable from boarder-to-boarder, and it even includes some of the original pavement and bridges! I'll post more from central Oklahoma when I get a chance to shoot a few more points of interest. But I'm not sure what the condition is like in other states.

There are many treasures to be seen along its 2400 mile trek from Chicago to Los Angeles. Let's see what caught your eye!

This is a recently built roadside attraction called Pops. It's a fancy gas station designed by local (and world-renowned) architect Rand Elliott, and is owned by Aubrey McClendon, founder and former chairman/CEO of Chesapeake Energy. The soda bottle sign is wrapped in lights that gradually change color. It's in Arcadia, Okla., which is about 15 miles northeast of downtown Oklahoma City, in a rural area, about half a mile from the Round Barn, if you're familiar with that.

These were shot in October 2013. I was looking for an excuse to burn up some film, and burn some gas in my motorcycle. :)

I have to make a cross-country trip in a few weeks and have a somewhat flexible schedule, so i'm thinking I'll drive down to Durham, take I-40, and pick up Route 66 in OK City. This should be interesting.

You should There are a lot of good waypoints between Arcadia, Okla. and points west. Arcadia is only a few miles out of your way, and worth a stop to see the round barn, and Pops. Our downtown is no Manhattan, but it's nice none the less!

Here's a bridge at Lake Overholser on Route 66. It's in Oklahoma City proper, but on the far west side of town. It was recently restored to its original condition. I've posted images of it before, but from a different day, and on very expired film. This is a better representation. It's tricky to shoot, because it's an active bridge, and I don't have the benefit of an assistant/traffic cop.
