X-ray film develop and fix......

Dear everyone,

I want to get some fun with this kind of film, but I don't know I can use the regular dev and fix for it, like rodinal or d76, or not? Please give me some hints or good links.

Yes
Use a hardening fixer
Or use a tanning developer
Or/and use hangers- the emulsion on the "other" side scratches almost by itself, for me.
Jim Fitzgerald reports no scratches using Pyrocat HD and hangers.
I report #@!@!!! scratches using flat bottom trays

As I've said before, YMMV, but start with an EI of 100-200 and develop with the juice of your choice at a time that's typical for the EI you choose. It's SOOOOO cheap that the cost of adjustments is very little- IIRC the cost of 8x10 blue XRay is cheaper than print paper by half.

What is the sensitivity like?

I.E is it orthochromatic so that it can be used under a red safelight?

I develop CXS green latitude under a red LED safelight with no problems. I use 4x5 hangers. In 8x10 the only way I figured out how to develop without scratches was to use a film bag.

I will try to make a box that the film is developed in vertical.

I suppose if I develop in an x-ray film developing machine I'll be good to go? My mom's a dentist and has a darkroom.

Be very careful when loading your film holders, too. I've scratched the bottom side of the film while inserting.
I load/develop green xray film under an amber safe light with no problems.

I use mamo film regularly for xray work and use D19 1:1. I work in low contrast subjects but D19 works quite well. I suspect other developers like HC110 would work for lower neg contrast.

I wonder if formalin would harden the emulsion. Formalin hardener was used for years in color processes. Also denatured ethanol will harden gelatin and might harden the emulsion.

I just asked someone they sell xray film on ebay,... the green is about 400asa and blue highspeed is 100asa. Soooooo useful.

Isn't the entire IR spectrum invisible to the human eye?

I just use my regular safe light, but I minimise the 'out of the box' time as it appears to cause very very minor exposure that is only noticeable when the film is partially exposed to safe light, e.g. if the edge of a sheet of film sticks out of the stack, or is covered by a piece of card or paper, it develops differently.

As for developer I just use Ilford LC29 at 1:29, with my RX-U it needs around 4mins at 50ISO and 8mins at 400ISO
Regular Ilford multi Fix at 1:4 for around 4 mins also.

Very minimal agitation for both steps, I just flip the dev bag (zip loc bag) every 30secs and give it a jiggle.
