Trouble aligning my Beseler CB7
Hi all
I also posted this over at APUG
I am in need of help figuring out why I cant get my cb7 in alignment . and please excuse the strange way I have tried to explain this problem I can get it to align at any distance from the base board but if I change the height at which I aligned it it goes out of alignment. and I have to move my versa laser to a different position on the base board to get he beam to hit the glass to check the alignment and it is back out of alignment at the new height. on my MXT as you raise or lower the height the laser beam doesn't have to be moved at all to check alignment at different positions. what would cause this ??

Re: Trouble aligning my Beseler CB7
Just the obvious question . . . instead of the curved front surface of the lens you, are using the piece of glass over the outer 'filter-thread' in order to reflect the laser dot? Sinilarly, when checking the neg-stage alignment is the carrier (or extra piece of glass that comes with the Versalign, if there is no glass neg-carrier) moving about loosely?
If alignment changes as you move the enlarger head, try to see if the tracks/wheels/rollers have any uneven wear throughout their length/circumference, as well as the obvious rigidity check of the frame of course.
Good luck.
Re: Trouble aligning my Beseler CB7
Along the same lines, years ago, I discovered that my Beseler 23C was out of alignment on the two side tracks. It was only off by one gear notch, and the gears still worked fine, so it took me a while to figure out the problem.
Check each side of the columns and make sure the condenser assembly lines up perfectly with each column. If it off by just one notch everything might work OK, but getting it aligned might be impossible.
Re: Trouble aligning my Beseler CB7
To the OP: are you using a bubble (spirit) level on all components of the enlarger?
- table or platform on which the enlarger rests
- baseboard
- column
- main lamp carrier holder
- negative stage/holder
- lens stage/holder
Checking level and plumb of all of these is 5 minutes' worth of work, and will give you alot of information about what is or isn't aligned.
Re: Trouble aligning my Beseler CB7
thanks to all for the help I have checked everything and it seem that the wheels on the track must be worn funny I made sure all surfaces where level and the angle on the braces wher the same all checked out.
