Epson V800-Kami or substitute for wet mounting
Greetings,
I would like to scan 5 x 7 inch b&w negatives and 120 color negatives on V800 using wet mount method. Will purchase a Epson wet mount assessory.
Kami by Aztek is a name you hear often. It is not cheap. Also mylar, etc.
Is there a substitute for Kami? Other place to buy mylar?
Thanks much.

Most large art stores carry big sheets of mylar in a couple of thicknesses, typically 2 mil and 5 mil. Some have more of a texture than others. Be careful not to crinkle the sheets in handling, cut down to multiples of working size on a print trimmer, and inspect individual little sheets for any flaws, and sort out accordingly. A few dollars spent should last a long time.

I wonder if this fellow's method would work.

He is using:
Mona Lisa Oderless Paint Thinner
ROR, residual oil remover
Kimwipes dustfree wipes
Speedball Deluxe Soft Roller Brayer
Epson Fluid Mount Assessory.
This would be quite inexpensive compare to the Aztek products.
Any thought or input on this?
Thank you.

I sure wouldn't want paint thinner of any kind in proximity with emulsions.

Thanks. Good alternative.
Still looks like mineral spirits to me.

Why? Is that based on something you have experienced?

Yep, but high quality mineral spirits. Personally, I use Kami and Lumina. I have a lifetime supply, but people I respect use Gamosol. As far as I know, Drew doesn't do any wet-mount scanning on a flatbed.

As he says in the video, it's mineral spirits.
