Richard Pare, Photography & Architecture: 1839 - 1939
I just want to recommend Mr. Pare's book for people who are interested in architectural photography. Coffee table size, it has about 150 plates, an introductory essay and biographical entries on the photographers. Pare is himself an architectural photographer, some of his work held by major collections. In 1982, when this book was published, he was the Curator of Photography for the Canadian Centre for Architecture. An exhibition of the photographs, in addition to being shown at the Centre, toured the National Gallery of Canada, Cooper-Hewitt, Art Institute of Chicago, Centre Georges Pompidou and Galerie Lempertz Contempora in Cologne.
Excellent book, and appears to be fairly inexpensive second-hand. I paid US$20 for the hardcover copy shown in the photo below at Strand Bookstore in New York.

I learned about Pare's book from Steven Brooke's Architectural Photography and Composition. It's on Brooke's recommended reading list. I talk about Brooke's own book (e-book. Apple Books, Kindle) in post #5 and #6 of this thread: https://www.largeformatphotography.i...=1#post1624128
This is Brooke's full list of recommended books and artists.

Unusually, he also has a list of recommended films and television programmes.
