tripod thread issues
good morning all,
My Kodak D2 is having issues with the 1/4" tripod thread being pushed up so far the male threads from the tripod will not reach it.
My plan is to patch this up and drill a new hole using a 3/8" thread which has a wider base. Seems pretty straight forward, however as this is a major connection point I figured it best to run it by you all before I start drilling into the camera.
thanks all -
Dave

Why is it pushed up; is it sitting loose in the camera - can't it be fastened with (new/bigger) screws?

Re: tripod thread issues
Some cameras have female threads that are recessed and need a long male
KMV camera are like this
fix depends on user mechanical skill
a machinist would make a fix
I may install a t-nut from the top, I would use 2

Re: tripod thread issues
Is there enough material to simply drill out to 3/8 and then tap, then put in a 3/8 to 1/4 adapter? I did this on a 5x7 Speed Graphic where the tripod threads had been stripped out and it worked fine.

Re: tripod thread issues
I had that problem years ago with a Gitzo tripod whose mounting screw was shorter than most tripods. When I found that it was also too short for other cameras, I replaced the tripod and haven't had the problem since.

excellent thanks all -
I'll likely go the t-nut route.

Re: tripod thread issues
I went for a T-nut on my Kodak Specialist when the tripod bush started to slip out after fitting a QR plate.
Now, the QR plate screws directly into the T-nut, so the tighter i make it, the more bite the T-nut has.

Re: tripod thread issues
Use a piece of plywood about the size of either the tripod top or camera bottom. A 1/4 inch hole countersunk on the bottom of the plywood lets you attach the plywood to the camera bottom. A T-nut or threaded insert provides threads for the tripod.
