Drab Winter Waterfall (Amicalola Falls)
Wisner 12x20, 360mm Symmar
Really I just wanted to see if I could do a vertical with this camera. I need to try this again on a better day. It started to snow after shooting this and I left. It's hard to get good light here in this valley - only part of the year does it ever have sun shining into it and only part of the day. I have an idea for a shot in spring, if it works out, with this vertical setup near where I was shooting.

My initial response to this print was "this is garbage!" - but then I started to like it. Still, I think there's way too much going on, and the top area is just a tad dark and too contrasty (I think). Right now I'm working up the gumption to print it again, and will post results. Here's the "garbage" version: (maybe will seem a bit less "garbage-y" over time, but not likely)
The heavy top (dark and contrasty as you mentioned) does lean forward some -- reducing the feeling of depth in the image. A different printing might resolve this if that is the direction you want to go. If you divide the image in half, you almost have two different images --bringing those two together somehow in the printing might be challenging. Print size might become a factor, also. A larger print might allow the viewer to more easily enter a complex image. It is difficult judging by the a screen image. Have some fun with it!

Ha, did you have to pack in a stepladder so you could pull the slide? At any rate, I'll be curious about what you find about matching aspect ratios to the physiographic province you find yourself in...in Appalachia at least, I suspect that that camera is going to take more "intimate landscapes" than anything else.

The "Blizzard of '21" left ice and snow in the woods. Here's "32nd Street Swamp" from the Anacortes City Forest. Shot with TriX in my old Calumet field view with yellow filter, and scanned from print. The alternating ice and water reflections make it a little hard to understand, but I think that's nice.

Though I felt myself reaching for bearings at first, I think it’s nice too.

Thanks. It didn't make me dizzy when I was there, but kind of shocked when I pulled it out of the tray yesterday. Glad you liked it.
