Chamonix C45-H1 and Benro Geared Head GD3WH
Hi All,
New here and just acquired a fantastic Chamonix which I am really enjoying. I was just wondering if anyone had tried this combination of geared head and camera.
The head looks like i will do the job I want if for apart from the fact they designed it such that the top of one of the adjustments wheels seems flush with (if not proud of) the top of the tripod plate!
Of course this is fine if you have a pocket camera like a 1Dx Mk2, but less practical for field style cameras, as I wonder if the rail gets fouled on the wheel.
Anyone able to offer any info?
Thanks
James.

I'm not sure about the Benro, but when I was running a Manfrotto 410 I found this spacer useful for getting a bit more clearance:

I use this head with a Chamonix 45-N2. It’s a bit awkward to reach, but there’s enough room to turn the top gear. Not enough space to unlock it for coarse adjustments, so I’ve just removed the camera the couple of times I wanted to point it at the ground. I might get one of those spacers though!

I use a 3 way head and adjust the tensioning for smaller movements. I'd be forever adjusting geared heads in the field. Some of the larger ball heads also have good tensioning to help you get things lined up before final tightening down.

Thanks for the info. Decided to try a leofoto G2 for the moment.
